Gigabyte has launched a couple of new QD-OLED monitors in 27- and 32-inch flavors. Although targeted primarily at the gaming crowd, these new monitors do not bear the AORUS branding.

The 27-inch variant has been dubbed the MO27Q2, and rocks a 1440p panel with a refresh rate of 240 Hz. At 109 PPI, the monitor is likely best suited for content consumption rather than creation, although the claimed 99% DCI-P3 coverage and maximum HDR brightness of 1,000 nits (3% APL) might suggest otherwise. Being an OLED, the response times are exceptionally fast, at 0.03 ms G2G.

Philips, or rather its brand licence partner MMD—which is a division of TPV—has launched a new gaming monitor under its Evnia brand, namely the 32M2N8800. The model name doesn't really give away much about the specs, but what we're looking at is a 31.5-inch 4K QD-OLED display with a 240 Hz refresh rate. The panel is VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certified and ClearMR 13000. Like most displays of this type it has a 10-bit panel with a 0.03 ms grey to grey response time and 99 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage. The Evnia display also features a range of gaming mode features like a smart crosshair and various game mode settings. There's also support for picture by picture and picture in picture.

Connectivity wise, it's sadly stuck with DisplayPort 1.4, as well as a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports. There's also a built-in USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) hub with two USB Type-A ports, of which one supports the older USB battery charging 1.2 standard, which delivers 5 V at up to 1.5 A. There's also a 3.5 mm audio output jack and the display is also equipped with Philips' Ambiglow LED backlight on four sides. The stand supports height, swivel and tilt adjustments. The Evnia 32M2N8800 is expected to retail for around US$1000, based on pricing in Hong Kong.

MSI has become something of a major player in the gaming monitor market and the company had a range of new OLED and QD-OLED models on display at Computex 2024. Let's start with the biggest buzzword model, the MEG 321URX QD-OLED which MSI claims is the world's first true AI gaming monitor. The so-called AI engine is supposed to help gamers lose less with features like AI Skysight which scans the game's mini map in real time for threats and then points them out to the player. There's also the ability to display certain stats on the monitor's "SpectrumBar" which is an RGB light strip below the monitor. Looking at the actual specs we find a next-gen 31.5-inch, 4K QD-OLED display panel with 240 Hz refresh rate and a 0.03 ms grey to grey response time. There was no mention of any HDR certification for this model.

Connectivity wise many of you will not be happy to see DisplayPort 1.4 as the main input, although it also has two HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB Type-C with DP Alt-mode support that also offers 98 Watts of USB PD charging, one USB 2.0 Type-B input, two USB 2.0 Type-A outputs and a headphone jack. KVM support is part of the package and MSI states it has improved the cooling by using a graphene film and a custom heatsink so the QD-OLED panel should run cooler than competing products. The MEG 321URX finally comes with OLED Care 2.0 which MSI claims will "significantly reduce the chances of OLED screen burn-in" according to the information provided at the show. According to TFTCentral, it will cost US$1700, but there's no availability date as yet.

MSI today released firmware updates for its MPG 271QRX QD-OLED and MPG 321URX QD-OLED gaming monitors. The updates are aimed at giving end-users control over DSC (display stream compression), to improve image quality when the display I/O bandwidth permits. This control is in the form of an OSD-level toggle for DSC DLDSR and DSR modes. For the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED, the update also adds a mode switch between HDMI Console and HDMI PC, with the default being Console. The update also packs optimizations to improve input lag and the monitor's share in whole-system latency. The update also includes aspect-ratio selection in the OSD for the MPG 321URX QD-OLED. A white-line artifact on the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED when using 2560 x 1440 @ 360 Hz has been fixed. Samsung Electronics today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2024. The Company posted KRW 71.92 trillion in consolidated revenue on the back of strong sales of flagship Galaxy S24 smartphones and higher prices for memory semiconductors. Operating profit increased to KRW 6.61 trillion as the Memory Business returned to profit by addressing demand for high value-added products. The Mobile eXperience (MX) Business posted higher earnings and the Visual Display and Digital Appliances businesses also recorded increased profitability.

The weakness of the Korean won against major currencies resulted in a positive impact on company-wide operating profit of about KRW 0.3 trillion compared to the previous quarter. The Company's total capital expenditures in the first quarter stood at KRW 11.3 trillion, including KRW 9.7 trillion for the Device Solutions (DS) Division and KRW 1.1 trillion on Samsung Display Corporation (SDC). Spending on memory was focused on facilities and packaging technologies to address demand for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), DDR5 and other advanced products, while foundry investments were concentrated on establishing infrastructure to meet medium- to long-term demand. Display investments were mainly made in IT OLED products and flexible display technologies.

For those of you that have been waiting patiently for the first DisplayPort 2.1 monitors to start arriving, we have good news as Gigabyte has revealed details of its first display equipped with DP 2.1. The monitor in question is the AORUS FO32U2P which also sports a 4K QD-OLED panel with a 240 Hz refresh rate. The 31.5-inch QD-OLED panel does follow the standard feature set with a 10-bit panel, 250 cd/m² brightness, 1.5 million to one contrast ratio, 0.03 ms GTG response time and a DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. Gigabyte has gone for an anti-reflective coating as well, which might not appeal to everyone.

As for the inputs, the DP2.1 ports support the full UHBR20 spec, which is 80 Gbps of total bandwidth over four 20 Gbps DisplayPort lanes, which means Gigabyte hasn't skimped on anything here. Yes, you read that correctly as well, the monitor has two DP 2.1 inputs, one full size and one mini DP input and there's also a USB Type-C input that supports DP-Alt mode, in addition to 65 W USB Power Delivery and USB data, although it's not clear if this port also supports DP 2.1. Furthermore, there are two HDMI 2.1 ports, one upstreams and two downstreams USB 3.2 ports, as well as a headphone and microphone jack. Gigabyte has also equipped the AORUS FO32U2P with a pair of 5 W speakers and a stand that offers tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustments. The maximum power usage is said to be 78 W, but this shouldn't include the USB PD part. Other features include KVM support, daisy-chaining via a DP output, picture in picture and picture by picture support and various gaming features such as crosshairs, night vision, black equalizer etc. Gigabyte has as yet to announce official pricing on a release date.

Update Mar 5th: We've received additional details on the DisplayPorts of the AORUS FO32U2P from Gigabyte and only the DP inputs supports DP 2.1, whereas the USB Type-C input and the DP daisy-chain ports are limited to DP 1.4. The MSRP of the AORUS FO32U2P will be US$1399.99 with the AORUS FO32U2 which is a DP 1.4 version will have an MSRP of US$1199.99.

Back in January, Gigabyte announced a wide range of new displays at CES and one of the new models that the company didn't have on display at the show was the AORUS FO27Q3. The company has now shared more details on its website of the new display and it gives us a lot more details than what had previously been released. As the model name suggests, the AORUS FO27Q3 is a 27-inch display and the resolution is 2560 x 1440 pixels and the refresh rate will top out at 360 Hz and has a response time of 0.03 ms. The FO27Q3 is built around a QD-OLED panel with an anti-reflective coating. The panel is said to be a 10-bit panel capable of 10.7 billion colours and it's certified for DisplayHDR True Black 400, has a typical brightness of 250 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 15 million to one.

Other features include support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VESA ClearMR 13000, but there's no mention of G-Sync support. Other features include a range of gaming related features such as crosshairs, night vision, black equalizer etc. as well as picture by picture and picture in picture support. Inputs consist of two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DP 1.4, one USB Type-C with DP Alt mode support as well as a very disappointing 18 W of USB Power Delivery. Furthermore there's a USB 3.0 upstreams port and two downstreams ports, a headphone and a microphone jack. Gigabyte has also added KVM support and a stand that offers tilt, swivels, pivot and height adjustment. The display is said to have a peak power draw of 53 Watts and relies on an external power brick. No word on pricing or availability.

MSI is preparing to launch its new generation of MPG and MAG series QD-OLED gaming monitors—early 2024 promotional activity included a couple of pre-launch initiatives. The company's marketing division is attempting to get into good graces with the gaming community—we have already witnessed the introduction of a 3-year warranty for OLED panel product, and permanent price cuts planned for launch day. It is highly probable that MSI is trying to attract customers away from ASUS ROG—the MPG 321URX ($949.99, formerly $1199) will be going up against the Swift OLED PG32UCDM ($1299).

Our QD-OLED monitors are finally rolling out, and we'd love to clarify any misconceptions and make sure everyone here is making an informed purchase! Many members thanked MSI for the comprehensive product rundowns and answering of questions/queries, but one participant—Mars0813—took issue with the MAG 321UPX model's apparent inability to receive software/firmware updates. MSI_Darutohne responded and confirmed: "You are correct. The MAG 321UPX QD-OLED will NOT support software updates." Subsequent repliers stated that they would cancel their pre-orders, or request refunds. Jamartty45 stated: "Appreciate you for clarifying, but I purchased this yesterday and it will be returned as soon as it gets to my door. A $900 monitor that doesn't support software updates is absurd." The more expensive MPG tier appears to be the best route for gamers who enjoy a little bit of future-proofing and bug fixing.

Monitors Unboxed has investigated alleged permanent MSI MSRP price cuts—affecting the MPG 321URX, as well the 49-inch 491CQP and 27-inch 271QRX QD-OLED models. The manufacturer appears prepped to undercut its competition to the tune of $350 (MPG 321URX vs. PG32UCDM): "I've gotten a second update from MSI regarding the MSRP of their QD-OLEDs. They have decided to change their mind and offer their previously lowered pricing permanently, instead of just as an introductory price.
