Potential RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Pricing in China Leaks

What we've all been waiting for, might just have appeared and what we're talking about is of course the pricing of NVIDIA's upcoming graphics cards. @wxnod has posted a single screenshot on X/Twitter of what could be the MSRP of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 in China. The MSRP of the RTX 4080 was 9,499 RMB and the RTX 5080 appears to be not that much higher, at 9,999 RMB, but this still equates to about US$1,370, although do note that there's 13 percent sales tax/VAT in China.

Now as for the RTX 5090, things won't be as rosy. The RTX 4090 had an MSRP of 12,999 RMB in China and the RTX 5090 comes in at an insane 18,999 RMB or US$2,600. That's a price hike of a not insignificant 46 percent over the RTX 4090 and this might make it the most expensive consumer graphics card ever released. We'd suggest taking these prices with a helping of NaCl just to be on the safe side. The cards are expected to be available some time in January according to the screenshot.

Update 15:34 UTC: A second picture was posted in the same thread on X/Twitter that shows the expected launch months of the lower-tier RTX 5000-series cards as well and it appears to be taken from a video.

NVIDIA RTX 5080 Laptop GPU Might Be Up to 60% Faster Than RTX 4080 Laptop

Moore's Law is Dead, a prominent YouTube channel specializing in computer hardware leaks, has revealed its expectations for the RTX 50-series Laptop GPUs. We have already reported on a massive product listing leak shedding light on almost every single "Blackwell" laptop GPU, but needless to say, more information is always welcome. According to Moore's Law is Dead, the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, and this has been hinted at by the aforementioned prior leak, will only sport 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM - the same as the RTX 5080 Laptop.

Moreover, his sources indicate that the RTX 5080 will drop with a 175-watt TGP and 7,680 CUDA cores, which is shockingly only a hair more than the 7,424 found in its predecessor. However, the source did state that the RTX 5080 will be around 40 to 60% faster than the RTX 4080, which is a massive generational leap in performance. It is not clear at this point how this number was arrived at, but it sure does seem rather utopian. Yet another source has also indicated that an RTX 5090 Laptop card with a whopping 24 GB of VRAM is also in the works which might launch down the line, but there is little else to be said about it. As MLID notes, NVIDIA has very little to no competition in the high-end laptop segment, which inevitably makes things worse for the end-user.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Specifications Surface, Showing Larger SKU Segmentation

Thanks to the renowned NVIDIA hardware leaker kopite7Kimi on X, we are getting information about the final versions of NVIDIA's first upcoming wave of GeForce RTX 50 series "Blackwell" graphics cards. The two leaked GPUs are the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, which now feature a more significant gap between xx80 and xx90 SKUs. For starters, we have the highest-end GeForce RTX 5090. NVIDIA has decided to use the GB202-300-A1 die and enabled 21,760 FP32 CUDA cores on this top-end model. Accompanying the massive 170 SM GPU configuration, the RTX 5090 has 32 GB of GDDR7 memory on a 512-bit bus, with each GDDR7 die running at 28 Gbps. This translates to 1,568 GB/s memory bandwidth. All of this is confined to a 600 W TGP.

When it comes to the GeForce RTX 5080, NVIDIA has decided to further separate its xx80 and xx90 SKUs. The RTX 5080 has 10,752 FP32 CUDA cores paired with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory on a 256-bit bus. With GDDR7 running at 28 Gbps, the memory bandwidth is also halved at 784 GB/s. This SKU uses a GB203-400-A1 die, which is designed to run within a 400 W TGP power envelope. For reference, the RTX 4090 has 68% more CUDA cores than the RTX 4080. The rumored RTX 5090 has around 102% more CUDA cores than the rumored RTX 5080, which means that NVIDIA is separating its top SKUs even more. We are curious to see at what price point NVIDIA places its upcoming GPUs so that we can compare generational updates and the difference between xx80 and xx90 models and their widened gaps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Reach Final Stages This Month, Chinese "D" Variant Arrives for Both SKUs

NVIDIA is on the brink of finalizing its next-generation "Blackwell" graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Sources close to BenchLife indicate that NVIDIA is targeting September for the official design specification finalization of both models. This timeline hints at a possible unveiling at CES 2025, with a market release shortly after. The RTX 5090 is rumored to boast a staggering 550 W TGP, a significant 22% increase from its predecessor, the RTX 4090. Meanwhile, the RTX 5080 is expected to draw 350 W, a more modest 9.3% bump from the current RTX 4080. Interestingly, NVIDIA appears to be developing "D" variants for both cards, which are likely tailored for the Chinese market to comply with export regulations.

Regarding raw power, the RTX 5090 is speculated to feature 24,576 CUDA cores paired with 512-bit GDDR7 memory. The RTX 5080, while less mighty, is still expected to pack a punch with 10,752 CUDA cores and 256-bit GDDR7 memory. As NVIDIA prepares to launch these powerhouses, rumors suggest the RTX 4090D may be discontinued by December 2024, paving the way for its successor. We are curious to see how the power consumption is handled and if these cards are packed efficiently within the higher power envelope. Some rumors indicate that the RTX 5090 could reach 600 watts at its peak, while RTX 5080 reaches 400 watts. However, that is just a rumor for now. As always, until NVIDIA makes an official announcement, these details should be taken with a grain of salt.

NVIDIA's Supply Cut Could Spark Price Hike for RTX 40 Series

According to a report from The Economic Daily (via ITHome), NVIDIA has reduced the supply of high-end RTX 40 GPUs by up to 50% in preparation for the upcoming RTX 50 Blackwell launch. This supply cut primarily affects NVIDIA's higher-end models, ranging from the RTX 4070 to the RTX 4090, and is intended to free up production capacity for the new Blackwell cards. NVIDIA is likely strategizing to create an ideal market environment, this would typically involve high demand for new products and minimal competition from rivals and its own existing lineup. Consequently, AIB partners like ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte are expected to raise prices on their RTX 40 offerings.

Despite these potential price hikes, most high-end RTX 40 GPUs currently sell at or near their MSRPs. For example, the RTX 4070 is available at $549 on Amazon, alongside the RTX 4070 SUPER and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER at their respective MSRPs or lower. The RTX 4080 SUPER can be found below its $999 official price, while only the RTX 4090 consistently sells above its $1,599.99 MSRP. Given these circumstances, consumers considering a high-end GeForce GPU purchase might want to act soon, as market conditions for buyers could potentially worsen in the near future.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti SUPER with 26 Gbps G6X Mod Beats RTX 4080

The graphics card modders from Brazil, TecLab and Paulo Gomes are back with yet another audacious, competitive VGA mod. The duo has already built a reputation for video memory replacement mods that have significantly altered the performance profile of graphics cards, and their latest feat sees an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER graphics card get a bit of a memory upgrade. Out of the box, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER comes with 16 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory across the 256-bit wide memory interface of the "AD103" GPU. The two tech-tubers each performed memory chip replacement mods, which in combination with GPU overclocking, resulted in memory speeds ranging between 24 Gbps and 26 Gbps. The big story here is that with faster memory, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER beats the RTX 4080, despite 13% fewer shaders and other key components.

A stock GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card scores 8525 points in the Unigine Superposition 8K benchmark, and a stock-speed Manli RTX 4070 Ti SUPER does 7212 points, on account of fewer shaders (66 SM vs. 76 SM) and slower memory (21 Gbps vs. 22.4 Gbps). With a 24 Gbps memory speed mod, and GPU overclocking, Paulo Gomes achieved 8870 points in the test for the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, beating the RTX 4080, and overcoming the shader deficit. Meanwhile, over at TecLab, their Galax-branded RTX 4070 Ti SUPER yields 7028 points at stock speeds; and the team pulled off an epic 26 Gbps memory speed (chip replacement + overclocking), which when combined with some GPU overclocking, yielded a staggering 9133 points, which would inch close to what an RTX 4080 SUPER could produce with its 23 Gbps memory and maxed out "AD103" ASIC with all 80 SM on deck.

PGL Investigating GeForce RTX 4080 GPU Driver Crash, Following Esports Event Disruption

The Professional Gamers League (PGL) showcased its newly upgraded tournament rig specification prior to the kick-off of their (still ongoing) CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 esports event. As reported, over a week ago, competitors have been treated to modern systems decked out with AMD's popular gaming-oriented Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards, while BenQ's ZOWIE XL2566K 24.5" 360 Hz gaming monitor delivers a superfast visual feed. A hefty chunk of change has been spent on new hardware, but expensive cutting-edge tech can falter. Virtus.pro team member—Jame—experienced a major software crash during a match against rival group, G2.

PCGamesN noted that this frustrating incident ended the affected team's chance to grab a substantial cash reward. Their report put a spotlight on this unfortunate moment: "in the second round of a best of three, Virtus Pro were a few rounds away from qualifying for the playoffs, only for their aspirations to be squashed through no fault of their own...Jame experiences a graphics card driver crash that irrecoverably steers the round in G2's favor, culminating in Virtus Pro losing the match 11-13. Virtus Pro would then go on to lose the subsequent tie-break match as the round was not replayed. In effect, the graphics card driver crash partly cost the team their chance at winning an eventual $1.25 million prize pool." PGL revealed, via a social media post, that officials are doing some detective work: "we wish to clarify the situation involving Jame during the second map, Inferno, in the series against G2. A technical malfunction occurred due to an NVIDIA driver crash, resulting in a game crash. We are continuing our investigation into the matter." The new tournament rigs were "meticulously optimized" and tested in the weeks leading up to CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024—it is believed that the driver crash was a random anomaly. PGL and NVIDIA are currently working on a way to "identify and fix the issue."

Xikii Shows Off Unofficial ASUS "ProArt" GPU Compatible Compact Chassis

Chinese custom chassis specialist, Xikii, has opened pre-orders for a new FF04 model—this classy ¥3599 (~$500) box has been designed to match the aesthetic theme of ASUS ProArt graphics cards. 3DCenter.org was impressed with the company's premium-priced work, following a discovery by Western readers (on Reddit). The site's social media account expressed some appreciation—the Xikii FF04 chassis set is a "9.8 liter case built around a single GPU; ASUS ProArt RTX 4070 Ti. Even the contour of the case matches the curve of the GPU shroud."

Xikii's product page includes a bunch of slick marketing shots and a promo video—all showing off a sample unit. Redditors noticed that the first batch of FF04 cases has already sold out—the company anticipates a shipping out date somewhere within an April 15 to 30 window. VideoCardz has eyeballed all available data, and surmised that several "RTX 40 ProArt models (4080, 4070 and 4060 series)" are suitably proportioned to fit in Xikii's purpose-built chassis—these: "have the same dimensions of 300x120x50 mm. This may explain why this design made any sense, you can certainly fit more than one model into this case, just keep in mind that a suitable power supply is needed for higher-end models." Xikii will offer an "external split water-cooling adapter module" as an optional item in the near future—they predict a price of 180 yuan (~$25).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series GPUs Now Priced Below MSRP in Germany

Two months ago, NVIDIA introduced its GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series to the market, bringing a trio of models: RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 4080 SUPER. Today, according to the report from ComputerBase, NVIDIA's latest trio has recorded a drop in pricing recently, and it now retails under MSRP in German stores. The RTX 4070 SUPER started with an MSRP of 659 Euros ($599 in the US) and is now available from 589 Euros. Its older brother, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, started with an MSRP listing of 889 Euros ($799 in the US) and is now retailing from 840 Euros. Lastly, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER has been listed at 1,109 Euros ($999 in the US) and is now retailing with a small discount at 1,092 Euros.

Once NVIDIA launched a new GPU generation, it became a custom for these cards to be retailed over their MSRP long before prices were adjusted and settled. However, with the latest SUPER refresh, this seems to be one of the fastest price adjustments. This could be caused by either an improvement in the supply chain or leveled supply and demand, making it so that these cards are finally trading below their launch-level MSRPs.

Provisions for 8-pin PCIe Power Connectors Spotted on Palit GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER PCB

Palit has kind of gone against the 12VHPWR grain with its GeForce RTX 4080 Super GamingPro OC graphics card—PC SIG's 16-pin power connector is the default standard for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series, but an outbreak of technical snafus has caused many to question the format's future. A new 12V-2x6 connection standard is touted as 12VHPWR's natural successor, but PC parts manufacturers continue to produce products that utilize the latter. HXL discovered a MaxSun custom GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER design that sported two completely bog standard 8-pin PCIe power connectors (in lieu of 12VHPWR), but a follow up report indicates that the Chinese board partner has scrubbed the offending item from its web presences.

Jisakuhibi Japan's review of the Palit GeForce RTX 4080 Super GamingPro OC model included close-up shots of the card's PCB—the publication's social media account noted an intriguing yet empty section: "(Palit's) board seems to be able to natively set the auxiliary power supply to PCIe 8-pin x 2 instead of 12VHPWR." The unoccupied area sits just south-east of the standard 12VHPWR connector—the provisional positioning of pin holes suggests that Palit's PCB could be designed for a separate professional graphics card solution. The company is unlikely to divulge its original intent with the placement of older auxiliary power connectors—ultimately 12VHPWR is the way forward.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPUs Pop Up in Geekbench Browser

We are well aware that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER graphics cards are next up on the review table (January 31)—TPU's W1zzard has so far toiled away on getting his evaluations published on time for options further down the Ada Lovelace SUPER food chain. This process was interrupted briefly by the appearance of custom Radeon RX 7600 XT models, but today's attention soon returned to another batch of GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER cards. Reviewers are already toying around with driver-enabled GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER sample units—under strict confidentiality conditions—but the occasional leak is expected to happen. The appropriately named Benchleaks social media account has kept track of emerging test results.

The Geekbench Browser database was updated earlier today with premature GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU test results—one entry highlighted by Benchleaks provides a quick look at the card's prowess in three of Geekbench 5.1's graphics API trials: Vulkan, CUDA and OpenCL. VideoCardz points out that all of the scores could be fundamentally flawed; in particular the Vulkan result of 100378 points—the regular (non-SUPER) GeForce RTX 4080 GPU can achieve almost double that figure in Geekbench 6. The SUPER's other results included a Geekbench 5 CUDA score of 309554, and an achievement of 264806 points in OpenCL. A late morning entrant looks to be hitting the right mark—an ASUS testbed (PRIME Z790-A WIFI + Intel Core i9-13900KF) managed to score 210551 points in Geekbench 6.2.2 Vulkan.
