Consisting of the XG76 and the XG76 XT, the eGPUs are powered by the AMD Radeon RX 7600M with 28 CUs and the desktop-class RX 7600 XT with 32 CUs respectively, both with a 150 W TDP. These GPUs are plenty performant, and are likely to offer respectable 1080p gaming performance.

Similar to offerings from competitors such as GPD and Ayaneo, the XG lineup features dock functionality as well. Both the variants sport USB4 connectivity with up to 100 W of power delivery. Display output is taken care of by the dual DisplayPort 2.0 ports, and a single HDMI 2.1 port. AMD Falling Behind: Radeon dGPUs Absent from Steam's Top 20

As we entered November, Valve just finished processing data for October in its monthly update of Steam Hardware and Software Survey, showcasing trend changes in the largest gaming community. And according to October data, AMD's discrete GPUs are not exactly in the best place. In the top 20 most commonly used GPUs, not a single discrete SKU was based on AMD. All of them included NVIDIA as their primary GPU choice. However, there is some change to AMD's entries, as the Radeon RX 580, which used to be the most popular AMD GPU, just got bested by the Radeon RX 6600 as the most common choice for AMD gamers. The AMD Radeon RX 6600 now holds 0.98% of the GPU market.

NVIDIA's situation paints a different picture, as the top 20 spots are all occupied by NVIDIA-powered gamers. The GeForce RTX 3060 remains the most popular GPU at 7.46% of the GPU market, but the number two spot is now held by the GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU at 5.61%. This is an interesting change since this NVIDIA GPU was in third place, right behind the regular GeForce RTX 4060 for desktops. However, laptop gamers are in abundance, and they are showing their strength, placing the desktop GeForce RTX 4060 in third place, recording 5.25% usage.

AMD Introduces the Radeon PRO V710 to Microsoft Azure

AMD today introduced the Radeon PRO V710, the newest member of AMD's family of visual cloud GPUs. Available today in private preview on Microsoft Azure, the Radeon PRO V710 brings new capabilities to the public cloud. The AMD Radeon PRO V710's 54 Compute Units, along with 28 GB of VRAM, 448 GB/s memory transfer rate, and 54 MB of L3 AMD Infinity Cache technology, support small to medium ML inference workloads and small model training using open-source AMD ROCm software.

With support for hardware virtualization implemented in compliance with the PCI Express SR-IOV standard, instances based on the Radeon PRO V710 can provide robust isolation between multiple virtual machines running on the same physical GPU and between the host and guest environments. The efficient RDNA 3 architecture provides excellent performance per watt, enabling a single slot, passively cooled form factor compliant with the PCIe CEM spec.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII Gets Official PC Requirements

Firaxis Games has published full PC system requirements for the upcoming Sid Meier's Civilization VII strategy game that will be launched on February 11th next year, and it looks like it won't need a powerful hardware, at least unless you want to run it at 4K/UHD resolution and with high graphics preset. Unfortunately, Firaxis Games has not revealed any details regarding support for NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR, at least not yet.

According to details, you'll need at least an Intel Core i3-10100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and either an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, AMD Radeon RX 460, or an Intel Arc A380 graphics card. Of course, these are minimum requirements so expect the game to run at 1080p resolution at 30 FPS and Low graphics preset. The game will also need 20 GB of SSD storage and Windows 10/11 64-bit OS. The recommended requirements, which should run the game at Medium graphics preset, 1080p resolution, and 60 FPS, include an Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600, or an Intel Arc A750 graphics card.

JPR: Shipments of Graphics AIBs See Significant Surge in Q2 2024

According to a new research report from leading analyst firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR), unit shipments in the add-in board (AIB) market increased in Q2'24 from last quarter and increased year over year. Meanwhile, Nvidia slightly increased market share from last quarter, as well as year over year. In Q2'24, total graphics card shipments increased to 9.5 million units, up from 8.7 million units last quarter.

AMD's quarter-to-quarter total desktop AIB unit shipments increased 9% and increased 3% from last year. Nvidia's quarter-to-quarter unit shipments increased 9.7% and increased 61.9% from last year while continuing to hold a dominant market share position at 88%. Intel, which entered the AIB market in Q3'22 with the Arc A770 and A750, remained flat, as the company has yet to gain significant traction in the add-in board market.

AMD to Unify Gaming "RDNA" and Data Center "CDNA" into "UDNA": Singular GPU Architecture Similar to NVIDIA's CUDA

According to new information from Tom's Hardware, AMD has announced plans to unify its consumer-focused gaming RDNA and data center CDNA graphics architectures into a single, unified design called "UDNA." The announcement was made by AMD's Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Computing and Graphics Business Group, at IFA 2024 in Berlin. The goal of the new UDNA architecture is to provide a single focus point for developers so that each optimized application can run on consumer-grade GPU like Radeon RX 7900XTX as well as high-end data center GPU like Instinct MI300. This will create a unification similar to NVIDIA's CUDA, which enables CUDA-focused developers to run applications on everything ranging from laptops to data centers.

There'll be one unified architecture, both Instinct and client [consumer]. AMD Radeon RX 8000 "RDNA 4" GPU Spotted on Geekbench

AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 8000 "RDNA 4" GPU has been spotted on Geekbench, revealing some of its core specifications. These early benchmark appearances indicate that AMD is now testing the new GPUs internally, preparing for a launch expected next year. The leaked GPU, identified as "GFX1201", is believed to be the Navi 48 SKU - the larger of two dies planned for the RDNA 4 family.

It features 28 Compute Units in the Geekbench listing, which in this case refers to Work Group Processors (WGPs). This likely translates to 56 Compute Units positioning it between the current RX 7700 XT (54 CU) and RX 7800 XT (60 CU) models. The clock speed is listed at 2.1 GHz, which seems low compared to current RDNA 3 GPUs that can boost to 2.5-2.6 GHz. However, this is likely due to the early nature of the samples, and we can expect higher frequencies closer to launch. Memory specifications show 16 GB of VRAM, matching current high-end models and suggesting a 256-bit bus interface. Some variants may feature 12 GB VRAM with a 192-bit bus. While not confirmed, previous reports indicate AMD will use GDDR6 memory.

ASUS Prepares Limited Edition Radeon RX 7900 XTX "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Edition" GPU with Only 20 Units Available

ASUS has introduced a new limited edition graphics card: the Radeon RX 7900 XTX Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 Edition. The company will produce only 20 units of this specially designed card, making it one of the rarest graphics cards on the market. The new card is based on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which uses AMD's RDNA 3 architecture. It maintains the same technical specifications as the standard model, including its gaming capabilities. The primary difference lies in its aesthetic design, which features artwork and elements inspired by the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, specifically referencing the Space Marines from the upcoming game Space Marine 2. ASUS developed this product in partnership with the developers of Space Marine 2. Each card will be individually numbered, potentially increasing its value for collectors. Despite its unique appearance, the card is expected to perform similarly to the standard RX 7900 XTX in terms of gaming performance.

Distribution of these graphics cards will not occur through typical retail channels. Instead, ASUS plans to organize a giveaway contest on August 23. AMD Software Adrenalin 24.8.1 WHQL Released

AMD today released the latest version of AMD Software Adrenalin drivers for Radeon GPUs and integrated graphics. Version 24.8.1 comes with optimization for "Black Myth: Wukong." It also includes optimization for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Open Beta," "Concord," and "Star Wars Outlaws." The drivers extend HYPR-Tune support to "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III," "Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered," and "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales." Anti-Lag 2 support is added to "Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut."

AMD also took the opportunity to fix a handful issues. To begin with, an intermittent application crash for "Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess" on Radeon RX 6600 series and RX 6700 series GPUs, has been fixed. Another such crash when launching "Pacific Drive" and "Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX" has been fixed. AA and AF settings failing to correctly apply for OpenGL applications has been fixed. Artifacts in games such as "Rust" and "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales" have been fixed. Abnormally high memory usage when playing certain editions of "Minecraft Java Edition" has been fixed. The shader optimization time in "Forza Motorsport" has been reduced.

Interestingly, the benchmark tool supports DLSS, FSR, and XeSS technologies, indicating that the final game will likely include these performance-enhancing features. The developers also strongly recommend using an SSD for storage.

AMD to Bundle Unknown9 Awakening and Warhammer: Space Marine II with Processors and Graphics Cards

AMD announced the Q3-2024 edition of its "This is Why We Game" bundle. The company is bundling either "Unknown 9 Awakening," or "Warhammer 40000: Space Marine II," or both, with new purchases of select AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards across its add-in board (AIB) partner ecosystem, and AMD Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors. It is also available to notebooks powered by Ryzen 7000S and 7000HS series mobile processors. The bundle is open worldwide (except China and a few other countries). The Japanese edition of this bundle only covers certain higher-end models of Ryzen processors and Radeon RX graphics cards.

Several AMD RDNA 4 Architecture Ray Tracing Hardware Features Leaked

We've known since May that AMD is giving its next generation RDNA 4 graphics architecture a significant upgrade with ray tracing performance, and had some clue since then, that the company is working on putting more of the ray tracing workflow through dedicated, fixed function hardware, unburdening the shader engine further. Kepler_L2, a reliable source with GPU leaks sheds light on some of the many new hardware features AMD is introducing with RDNA 4 to better accelerate ray tracing, which should give its GPUs a reduced performance cost of having ray tracing enabled. Kepler_L2 believes that these hardware features should also make it to the GPU of the upcoming Sony PlayStation 5 Pro.

To begin with, the RDNA 4 ray accelerator introduces the new Double Ray Tracing Intersect Engine, which should at least mean a 100% ray intersection performance increase over RDNA 3, which in turn offered a 50% increase over that of RDNA 2. The new RT instance node transform instruction should improve the way the ray accelerators handle geometry. Some of the other features we have trouble describing include a 64-byte RT node, ray tracing tri-pair optimization, Change flags encoded in barycentrics to simplify detection of procedural nodes; improved BVH footprint (possibly memory footprint): and RT support for oriented bounding box and instance node intersection. AMD is expected to debut Radeon RX series gaming GPUs based on RDNA 4 in early 2025.

Sapphire's Radeon RX 7700 XT Pure Frostpunk 2 Edition Looks Even Better In Person

We had a chance to briefly stop at Sapphire and it is one of the rare AMD GPU AIB partners that has something new to showcase at the Computex 2024. While it was announced earlier last month, we had a chance to check out the new Sapphire Radeon RX 7700 XT Pure Frostpunk 2 Edition graphics card, and it looks even better in person.

It could have something to do with the fact that we liked the original Frostpunk game and we can't wait to check out Frostpunk 2 when it launches on July 25th, but the card with white shroud and white fans with Frostpunk elements on its backplate certainly has its appeal. You also get a game code for the Deluxe Edition of the game in the box as well as some other goodies including custom keycaps and pin badges.In case you somehow missed it, the Radeon RX 7700 XT is based on the 5 nm Navi 32 GPU, packing 54 compute units for a total of 3,456 stream processors. AMD is targeting 1440p gaming with this card and it comes with 48 MB of Infinity Cache and 12 GB of 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory on a 192-bit memory interface. It needs two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, and includes two DisplayPort 2.1 and two HDMI 2.1 outputs.

In addition to the new Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 series desktop CPUs and Ryzen AI 300 series mobile CPUs, as well as the new Ryzen 5000XT series AM4 socket desktop CPUs and updates to the AMD Instinct AI GPU roadmap, AMD rather silently announced the new Radeon PRO W7900 Dual Slot workstation graphics card at the Computex 2024. While not a completely new product, as it is just a model update of the currently available flagship Radeon PRO W7900 workstation graphics card, it is still a rather important update since AMD managed to squeeze it into a dual-slot design, which gives it support for multi-GPU setups.

As said, the AMD Radeon PRO W7900 Dual Slot still uses the same Navi 31 GPU with 96 Compute Units (CUs), 96 Ray Accelerators, 192 AI Accelerators, and 6144 Stream Processors, as well as 48 GB of GDDR6 ECC memory on a 384-bit memory interface, giving it maximum memory bandwidth of 864 GB/s. It still needs 2x8-pin PCIe power connectors and has a Total Board Power (TBP) of 295 W. The card still comes with three DisplayPort 2.1 and one Enhanced Mini DisplayPort 1.2 outputs. What makes the new Radeon PRO W7900 Dual Slot special is the fact that AMD managed to get it down to a dual-slot design, even with the same blower-fan cooler. Unfortunately, it is not clear if the fan or its profiles are different, but it does make it suitable to be used in multi-GPU configurations.

AMD Adds RDNA 4 Generation Navi 44 and MI300X1 GPUs to ROCm Software

AMD has quietly added some interesting codenames to its ROCm hardware support list. The biggest surprise is the appearance of "RDNA 4" and "Navi 44" codenames, hinting at a potential successor to the current RDNA 3 GPU architecture powering AMD's Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards. The upcoming Radeon RX 8000 series could see Navi 44 SKU with a codename "gfx1200". While details are scarce, the inclusion of RDNA 4 and Navi 44 in the ROCm list suggests AMD is working on a new GPU microarchitecture that could bring significant performance and efficiency gains. While RDNA 4 may be destined for future Radeon gaming GPUs, in the data center GPU compute market, AMD is preparing a CDNA 4 based successors to the MI300 series. However, it appears that we haven't seen all the MI300 variants first. Equally intriguing is the "MI300X1" codename, which appears to reference an upcoming AI-focused accelerator from AMD.

While we wait for more information, we can't decipher whether the Navi 44 GPU SKU is for the high-end or low-end segment. If previous generations are for reference, then the Navi 44 SKU would target the low end of the GPU performance spectrum. The previous generation RDNA 3 had Navi 33 as an entry-level model, whereas the RDNA 2 had a Navi 24 SKU for entry-level GPUs. We have reported on RDNA 4 merely being a "bug correction" generation to fix the perf/Watt curve and offer better efficiency overall. What happens finally, we have to wait and see. AMD could announce more details in its upcoming Computex keynote.

AMD to Redesign Ray Tracing Hardware on RDNA 4

AMD's next generation RDNA 4 graphics architecture is expected to feature a completely new ray tracing engine, Kepler L2, a reliable source with GPU leaks, claims. Currently, AMD uses a component called Ray Accelerator, which performs the most compute-intensive portion of the ray intersection and testing pipeline, while AMD's approach to ray tracing on a hardware level still relies greatly on the shader engines. The company had debuted the ray accelerator with RDNA 2, its first architecture to meet DirectX 12 Ultimate specs, and improved the component with RDNA 3, by optimizing certain aspects of its ray testing, to bring about a 50% improvement in ray intersection performance over RDNA 2.

The way Kepler L2 puts it, RDNA 4 will feature a fundamentally transformed ray tracing hardware solution from the ones on RDNA 2 and RDNA 3. This could probably delegate more of the ray tracing workflow onto fixed-function hardware, unburdening the shader engines further. AMD is expected to debut RDNA 4 with its next line of discrete Radeon RX GPUs in the second half of 2024. Given the chatter about a power-packed event by AMD at Computex, with the company expected to unveil "Zen 5" CPU microarchitecture on both server and client processors; we might expect some talk on RDNA 4, too.

AMD Releases Software Adrenalin 24.4.1 WHQL GPU Drivers

AMD has released the latest version of Adrenalin Edition graphics drivers, version 24.4.1 WHQL. It includes support for the upcoming Manor Lords game, as well as add performance improvements for HELLDIVERS 2 game, and adds AMD HYPR-Tune support to Nightingale and SKULL AND BONES games. New drivers also expand Vulkan API extensions support with VK_KHR_shader_maximal_reconvergence and VK_KHR_dynamic_rendering_local_read, as well as include support and optimizations for Topaz Gigapixel AI application, versions 7.1.0 and 7.1.1, with new "Recovery" and "Low Resolution" AI upscaling features.

New AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 24.4.1 WHQL drivers come with several fixes, including performance improvements for HELLDIVERS 2, fix for intermittent application crash in Lords of the Fallen on Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, various artifact issues in SnowRunner and Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on Radeon RX 6800 and Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, fix for intermittent application crash or driver timeout in Overwatch 2 when Radeon Boost is enabled on Radeon RX 6000 and above series graphics cards, intermittent crash while changing Anti-Aliasing settings in Enshrouded on Radeon 7000 series graphics cards, and various application freeze or crash issues with the SteamVR while using Quest Link on Meta Quest 2 or when screen sharing with Microsoft Teams.
