TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.3.7 Released

TechPowerUp released the newest version of GPU-Z, our graphics subsystem information and monitoring utility. Version 0.3.7 brings with it some significant feature-set updates that enhance usability, and add the the vast amount of information this tiny utility can display. To begin with, GPU-Z now shows the GPU Computing features your graphics cards support, including whether they support technologies such as DirectCompute, OpenCL, CUDA, and PhysX acceleration. Building on the infotips feature the previous version came with, the Sensors tab now includes handy infotips too. For NVIDIA users, GPU-Z is able to display the exact amount of video memory in use by making use of a new driver-level feature by the company.

GPU-Z also includes full-support for ATI Radeon HD 5970, NVIDIA GeForce GT 240, and improved support for Intel G41. Detection features have also been added that help determine counterfeit graphics cards that use some old GPUs relabeled as new current-gen GPUs. Several other stability issues have been addressed. GPU-Z is backed by our extensive video-card BIOS database, and overclocking validation system.

TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.3.6 Released

Today TechPowerUp presents version 0.3.6 of GPU-Z, our graphics sub-system diagnostic utility that provides information on the computer's installed graphics hardware, their various specifications, and provides real-time updates on their parameters such as clock-speeds, temperatures, voltages, and fan-speeds. The utility is backed by our overclock validation system, and an extensive video-card BIOS database. This release brings with it a few important changes that improve compatibility with the latest graphics processors, and enhance usability.

To begin with, GPU-Z introduces an infotip feature that makes understanding graphics hardware easier. Hovering the mouse over an information field shows concise information related to that field. Along with polished support for ATI Radeon HD 5850, and HD 5700 series, version 0.3.6 introduces preliminary support for AMD's newer GPUs. Also introduced is support for several of NVIDIA's GeForce 100 and 200 series GPUs, and some Tesla GPGPU processors. A number of stability issues have also been fixed.

TechPowerUp Community Crunching/Folding Contest Announced, Score Your Way to a DC-PC

TechPowerUp's Folding@Home and World Community Grid teams, both among the top 100 teams in their own merits, have decided to give back to the community by announcing the TechPowerUp Community Crunching/Folding Contest. Organized entirely by the community, the contest gives one lucky winner, a pre-assembled, turnkey PC with optimal hardware for distributed computing (DC-PC). For starters, the PC has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 accelerator to run GPU-accelerated distributed computing applications of the likes of Folding@Home GPU, while its Pentium Dual-Core handles CPU-driven distributed computing applications, such as World Community Grid. With 500 GB of handy storage, Windows XP SP2 OS, Antec BP-550Plus 550W PSU to power it all, and In Win X-Fighter as its housing, the prize would make a perfect addition to any distributed computing enthusiast's armory.

Now open to everyone, the contest is a purely community funded and organized. It involves achieving 60,000 BOINC points and 100,000 F@H points within a contest time frame of 60 days, starting from 11:59PM EST on 10/14/09. The contest ends on 11:59PM EST on 12/12/09. Participants must 'crunch' (score) for WCG Team #22175 and 'fold' (scoring) for Folding@Home team #50711 only. The winner will be selected within five days of contest closure, and contacted by e-mail. TechPowerUp doesn't partake as the organizers of this contest, and hence do not hold any liabilities. TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.3.5 Released

TechPowerUp today released version 0.3.5 of the GPU-Z graphics subsystem information and monitoring utility. GPU-Z provides information on the computer's installed graphics hardware, and provides real-time updates on their parameters such as clock-speeds, temperatures, voltages, and fan-speeds. Version 0.3.5 makes the utility geared up for the newest graphics processors from AMD, its Radeon HD 5800 series, along with improved support for NVIDIA FX5500, 9400 GT, G73, GTS 240, GT 140, FX 1800, GT 120 (Apple), FX 380, FX 350, GTX 295 Single PCB, Quadro CX, FX 5800, FX 4800, FX 3800, GTX 180M, GTX 260M, FX 2700M, G 110M, GT 120M, GT 220M, FX 1700M, G 105M, MCP79MX. GPU-Z can now also detect the embedded GPU on some Intel socket LGA-1156 processors. Support is also added for some of AMD's newest Radeon HD 4700 series GPUs and HD 4650 AGP, M92, M96, M98. A concise list of other notable changes is as follows:
  • Added clock reading for Intel i910, i915, i945, 946
  • Added support for DDR3 detection on G9x
  • Added monitoring support for RV7xx based mobile chips
  • Voltage controller "slaves" are now called "phases"
  • Fixed BIOS parsing on some newer HD 4870 cards
  • Added voltage monitoring support for MSI N275GTX Lightning

TechPowerUp World Community Grid Team Amongst Top 100 Teams

The TechPowerUp World Community Grid (WCG) team crossed an important milestone today, reaching a world rank of 99, entering the top 100 domain. The team ranks (TC) 99 out of 15,293 according to WCG statistics aggregator BOINC Synergy. 118 out of registered 132 members are active. According to statistics from Free-DC.org, the team will enter the top 90 teams in 10 days (at its present rate), and top 75 in about one month. The team's growth like clockwork could not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of its members, who believe in doing their bit for the various scientific and socially-relevant problems WCG attempts to solve. TechPowerUp and HIS Design Your HD 4890 Contest: Here Are The Winners!

Earlier this April, TechPowerUp and HIS announced the "Design Your HD 4890 Contest", to celebrate the launch of AMD's flagship Radeon HD 4890 graphics accelerator. The contest involved designing the accelerator's body graphics, an important ingredient in making the product. The winner receives a free Radeon HD 4890 accelerator with the winning design printed on the accelerator. The first and second runners up receive HIS Radeon HD 4850 IceQ4 512 MB, and HIS Radeon HD 4650 iSilence 512 MB respectively.

Nearly 60 days of contest time, and an overwhelming response of 314 entries later, a panel of 11 judges from HIS, AMD, and TechPowerUp selected the top three entries, along with a short list of noteworthy designs. Here are the winners:

The TechPowerUp World Community Grid (WCG) team has been roaring up the rankings thanks to several dedicated participants. In celebration of our continued success, and in an effort to entice new members, we will be holding our first ever TechPowerUp WCG contest starting Monday, June 15th. TechPowerUp Radeon BIOS Editor v1.21 Released

TechPowerUp Radeon BIOS Editor (RBE) has been updated to version 1.21. RBE is our popular ATI Radeon graphics card BIOS manipulation utility. The new version brings about a few changes that enhance the application's functionality and stability. The developer has listed the following important changes:
  • Fixed minor glitch in BIOS flashing procedure
  • Minor fixes and enhancements for hex editor

TechPowerUp! World Community Grid Team Surges Past 6 Million Points at Free-DC.org

The TechPowerUp! World Community Grid (WCG) Team passed an important milestone, in its relentless pursuit of the top spot. The team scored an aggregate of 6 million points yesterday as per the scoring system of popular distributed computing score aggregator Free-DC.org (6,061,211 as of now). Currently holding world rank 170, the team's score is growing with an average of 160,000+ points per day. To give you an idea of the growth rate, statistics show the team to have aggregated close to 4 million points in the last 28 days alone. The team currently has 79 registered contributors, and believes in doing its bit for the various scientific, socially-relevant challenges WCG attempts to solve. TechPowerUp GPU-Z v0.3.4 Released

TechPowerUp today released a timely update to GPU-Z (version 0.3.4). GPU-Z is our graphics sub-system diagnostic utility that provides information on the computer's installed graphics hardware, their various specifications, and provides real-time updates on their parameters such as clock-speeds, temperatures, and fan-speeds. The utility is backed by our overclock validation system, and an extensive video-card BIOS database.

With the new version, we have isolated and fixed a few bugs, added general application compatibility and expanded support for new GPUs. The most significant changes are listed below:
  • Fixed RV740-specific Bugs: ROP count, shader count, real-time core clock, BIOS dump size
  • Added voltage reading support for Radeon HD 4890, fixed BIOS reading, fixed its transistor count
  • GPU-Z should work again on Windows 2000 without PSAPI.DLL
  • Fixed default clock-speed reading on ATI cards that have default clock lower than boot clock

Earlier this month, amongst extensive news and reviews coverage of the ATI Radeon HD 4890 graphics accelerator, TechPowerUp in partnership with Hightech Information Systems (HIS) announced the "Design Your Own HD 4890 Contest", where we will be giving away a special HIS Radeon HD 4890 graphics accelerator with body graphics designed by you. Your winning design makes it to the first prize itself, while first and second runners up receive other great prizes by HIS.

Thanks to the great response from our readers, we have decided to extend the contest up to May 31st 2009. We are overwhelmed by the creativity many of our contestants have exhibited, some even thinking they could come up with more than three design candidates. Recently, a member of our community asked me personally to do him a big favour and publish the good cause he and his followers are trying to defend. I'm complete noob when it comes to World Community Grid (WCG) Teams, I really haven't got enough time to participate in such projects, but we know they exist for some time now and they're trying to make the world a bit better. Now techPowerUp! has its own WCG Team led by our forum member Fitseries3 and we're glad to inform you that it's doing pretty well. TechPowerUp Radeon BIOS Editor (RBE) v1.20 Released

TechPowerUp today released Radeon BIOS Editor version 1.20, our popular ATI Radeon graphics card BIOS manipulation utility. The newest version of the software brings about some important feature-additions, along with improved stability and minor bug fixes. Changes in this version, as listed in the software's changelog is as follows:
  • Added hex editor
  • Added alternative BIOS extraction method
  • (Hopefully) fixed the 3650 Device-ID-bug for good
  • Fixed a bug concerning weird 4670 fan settings

New VGA BIOS collection launched

We have just launched our new VGA BIOS Collection. It uses a more modern interface than the old ATI BIOS Collection and also shows additional info for each BIOS.
Another new feature is that you can now download NVIDIA BIOS files as well, to improve the selection we need your help.

Please save your NVIDIA BIOS and submit it, so we can add it to the collection. Instructions can be found on the VGA BIOS collection page.

TechPowerUp!'s Own Ben Clarke Starts Web Comic 'Front Side Bus'

TechPowerUp! is a source for a lot of things in the computer world. You can get reviews of the latest hardware, articles telling you how to build/mod said hardware, tools to overclock that hardware, an information repository, and a close, loving community. We're proud to announce that there is an addition to what techPowerUp! brings you. Forum user Ben Clarke recently started his very own web comic, which he called "Front Side Bus". The comics are co-developed with user "PVTCaboose1337", and are shaped by the ideas of several users. You can see the development team at work here.
