AMD ROCm 6.0 Adds Support for Radeon PRO W7800 & RX 7900 GRE GPUs

Building on our previously announced support of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, XTX and Radeon PRO W7900 GPUs with AMD ROCm 5.7 and PyTorch, we are now expanding our client-based ML Development offering, both from the hardware and software side with AMD ROCm 6.0. Firstly, AI researchers and ML engineers can now also develop on Radeon PRO W7800 and on Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPUs. With support for such a broad product portfolio, AMD is helping the AI community to get access to desktop graphics cards at even more price points and at different performance levels.

Furthermore, we are complementing our solution stack with support for ONNX Runtime. ONNX, short for Open Neural Network Exchange, is an intermediary Machine Learning framework used to convert AI models between different ML frameworks. As a result, users can now perform inference on a wider range of source data on local AMD hardware. This also adds INT8 via MIGraphX—AMD's own graph inference engine—to the available data types (including FP32 and FP16). With AMD ROCm 6.0, we are continuing our support for the PyTorch framework bringing mixed precision with FP32/FP16 to Machine Learning training workflows.

TechPowerUp GPU-Z 2.54.0 Released

TechPowerUp today released the latest version of TechPowerUp GPU-Z, the popular graphics sub-system information, monitoring, data-logging, and diagnostic tool for gamers, PC enthusiasts, overclockers, and engineers. The latest version 2.54.0 adds support for new graphics cards, and has several improvements that we're sure you'll find useful. Among the new NVIDIA GPUs supported are the GeForce RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 3060 (based on GA104-B), RTX 3050 Laptop GPU 4 GB, RTX 3050 Mobile 6 GB (based on GA107-B), 40-2Q, L4, RTX A500 Mobile, RTX 2000 Ada Mobile, RTX 4000 SFF Ada, RTX 5000 Ada Mobile. The new AMD GPUs supported include Radeon RX 7600, Pro W7800, W7900, E8860, Ryzen Phoenix Radeon 7x0M, and Ryzen Z1 Extreme. The new Intel GPUs supported include Arc Pro A60, A60M, Flex 140, Iris Xe Max 100, additional Raptor Lake iGPU variants. Vendor support is added for Sparkle (Intel Arc board partner).

With this release, we've added the ability to monitor and log the real-time video memory read/write bandwidth usage for Intel Arc GPUs. Power monitoring for Intel Arc GPUs was broken after a recent driver update, this is fixed now. We've also improved the video codec capability detection in the DXVA section of the Advanced tab, for all GPUs. The XML Dump output file now includes GPU transistor-count and release date. The Fake GPU detection has been improved. Die-size values for NVIDIA GeForce Ada GPUs have been fixed, as is the transistor-count of RTX 4070 Mobile (based on AD106). Grab GPU-Z from the link below.

AMD Radeon Pro W7800 GPU Tweaked to Simulate "RX 7800 XT"

An AMD Navi 32 die was belatedly observed in a Forbes video feature on the company's CEO and President Lisa Su—this small tidbit fired up the PC hardware community once again with speculation about why Team Red has not yet released proper mid-range RDNA 3 game-oriented models. A handful of news sites have recently reported that a Navi 32 GPU sits at the heart of AMD's fairly new workstation-grade AMD Radeon Pro W7800 32 GB GDDR6 graphics card, but fact checkers have quickly pointed out that the $2499 (MSRP) product is actually based on Navi 31. Sites have theorized about the makeup of a possible "Radeon RX 7800" GPU and assumed that a similarly named/numbered workstation model would offer a preview of things to come.

Igor Wallossek (of Igor's Lab fame) has conducted an interesting investigation into this matter. He has put a Radeon Pro W7800 test unit through its paces as a gaming card, but the high-end nature of the Navi 31 GPU leads him to believe that the performance level on tap would be roughly equivalent to a hypothetical "RX 7800 XT." Igor assumes that his simulated gaming card will have access to a smaller pool of VRAM (16 GB instead of 32 GB)—he achieves this via the memtestcl program, since "RDNA 3 no longer allows us to emulate the cards directly." He also sets provisions for differing power consumption due to the workstation card being an efficiency-focused product: "The Radeon Pro W7800 has a TBP of 260 watts, my own extrapolation results in a TBP of around 270 watts for the RTX 7800XT based on the efficiency values of the other two Navi 31 cards."
