AMD announced today the third processor, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, to the lineup of AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors with AMD 3D V-Cache Technology that will be compatible with all MSI's X670, B650 and A620 motherboards. The new Ryzen 7 7800X3D features 8 cores and 16 threads, 96 MB L3 cache and 120 W TDP as well which is definitely the best value choice for gamers.

At the same time, MSI is pleased to present the extraordinary performance of Ryzen 7 7800X3D, powered by MSI's exclusive BIOS features - Enhanced Mode Boost, High-Efficiency Mode and Memory Context Restore. All MSI 600 series motherboards support these functions with AGESA COMBO PI 1.0.0.6.

Gigabyte is also apparently testing the new BIOS update that should bring non-binary memory support to AMD's 600-series chipset motherboards. With the official AGESA update for AMD X670 and B650 apparently just around the corner, it does not come as a surprise that all motherboard makers are implementing it and testing it on their motherboards.

The latest comes from Gigabyte over at Coolaler forums, showing the AORUS X670E Master motherboard running 192 GB of DDR5 memory. This time around, the memory was running at 6000 MT/s, so the official support is certainly around the corner, even for overclocked kits. Both Corsair and G.SKILL have already announced their own 24 GB and 48 GB modules running at up to DDR5-8000. The official AGESA update is rumored to come in April, but there is no official word from either AMD or various motherboard makers.

AMD's high-end X670E motherboard chipset combines two Promontory 21 chips working together to deliver a single solution. With regularly-sized ATX motherboards, having two chips to form a chipset is fine, as there is much room on the PCB. However, with Mini-ITX motherboards, packing two Promontory 21 chips is difficult as the PCB area is limited. To combat this, ASUS introduced an interesting solution to solve the problem and allowed the company to ship the high-end X670E chipset inside a Mini-ITX form factor. Thanks to UNIKO's Hardware's findings, we look at the exciting solution ASUS used to solve this problem.

Instead of two Promontory 21 chips side by side, one is placed on the motherboard directly, while the other stands vertically attached by M.2 PCIe slot. Below, the chipset's pictures and the highlight show how it looks disassembled.

According to HKEPC, AMD is set to introduce two versions of the A620 chipset for its lower-end motherboards, providing a lower barrier of AM5 entry for users on a smaller budget. As the new source notes, AMD is going to use its Promontory 21 (PROM21) module for A620 motherboards, the same one used on B650 and X670 models. However, for the first time, we are hearing about Promontory 22 (PROM22), a module that will allow A620-based motherboards to start at 125 US dollars—a promise made by AMD in its marketing slides (which you can see below). Two A620 chipsets will enable users to choose basic functionality or some additional features on a reasonable budget.

With PROM21 going inside all chipset SKUs, it carries silicon functionality disabled by AMD to create different categories. However, the PROM22 is a new silicon that doesn't need bells and whistles of the high-end boards inside a feature-deprived chipset like A620. This drives down AMD's costs, making it easier for vendors to adjust pricing. We have to wait for the launch and see how much of this will be fulfilled, so stay tuned for further updates.

For those that don't remember the early days of ASRock, the company started out making some rather unusual motherboards, often with some wild and wacky upgrade paths, such as both a slot and a socket for a CPU or both AGP and PCIe graphics card slots. Since then, ASRock has become a much more mainstream motherboard maker, but the company appears to have gone back to its roots with what the company calls the X670 Xpansion Kit. Right now, the expansion card appears to be working with the B650 LiveMixer motherboard and it's unknown if it's compatible with other models from ASRock. It seems to be limited to ASRock motherboards only, due to the fact that the add-in card requires not only a x4 PCIe slot with all lanes attached, on the motherboard, but also a custom cable that is most likely for "low-speed" I/O's such as I2C, SPI and so on.

As the name suggests, the X670 Xpansion Kit allows B650 motherboards to be turned into X670 motherboards, more or less. The card is home to a second chipset, which enables not only two additional M.2 slots for PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, but it also features two SATA ports, a 10 Gbps USB-C port, three USB-A ports and—maybe most interestingly—a 10 Gbps Ethernet interface. It's unclear if this will be a retail product, but the card provided to Level1Techs doesn't appear to be an engineer unit, but a full retail ready product. It's definitely an interesting upgrade path for those that have invested in a B650 motherboard and there's no real reason why this shouldn't work as well as having the second chipset on the motherboard, especially as ASRock appears to have fitted a signal re-driver on the add-in card to make sure the PCIe signals are handled properly.

MSI announcing today a new lineup of AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors that will be compatible with all MSI's X670 and B650 motherboards. The new AMD Ryzen CPU will include the AMD Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700, and the Ryzen 5 7600 which will have a default TDP of 65 W. Even with a lower TDP, these CPUs will up to 12 cores and 24 threads as their respective CPUs and be able to hit their theoretical max boost clock of over 5 GHz. All X670 and B650 motherboards from MSI will be compatible and ready at launch with the newest BIOS version "AGESA COMBO PI-1.0.0.4" update.

This one is likely to go down ASRock's internal history as a failure of sticking proportions. Namely, it seems that some ASRock motherboards in the newly-released AM5 X670 / X670E family carry stickers overlaid on the DDR5 slots. The idea was to provide users with a handy, visually informative guide on DDR5 memory stick installations and a warning on abnormally long boot times that were to be expected, according to RAM stick capacity. But it seems that these low-quality stickers are being torn apart as users attempt to remove them, leaving behind remnants that are extremely difficult to clean up and which can block DRAM installation entirely or partially. I, for one, would never install a DDR5 module if I thought there was a chance for some paper bits to have fallen on to the DRAM slots - paper and glue bits within the DRAM slots don't seem particularly conducive to a successful motherboard POST.

In the meantime, the company has already announced that it's not only aware of the problem, it's willing to accept RMAs for motherboards that sport the impossible-to-cleanly-peel stickers (consumers should contact their retailers and e-tailers for the exchange). Information around forums where this issue is being discussed don't seem to point to any instance of actual motherboard damage resulting from the stickers - enough patience or an entire motherboard exchange seem to be two solutions to this problem. The company also announced that its latest motherboard batches on AMD's X670 chipsets no longer carry the stickers themselves, due to several BIOS-level improvements that have brought down the boot times, making the informative stickers unneeded. Still, when one takes into account the consumer and company cost of activating an RMA process, it seems that the company shouldn't have skimped on the sticker quality itself.

The AM5 motherboard prices that cropped up over the weekend do indeed appear to be placeholders or early cash grab pricing, as MSI has revealed its official pricing for four of its upcoming motherboards in a live stream. Although the pricing is still very high, it's not as insanely high as the early listing suggested. Starting at the bottom with the Pro X670-P WiFi, we're looking at a US MSRP of US$329 excluding tax and an EU MSRP of €395 including VAT. Next up we have the MPG X670E Carbon WiFi for US$499/€599, which is a steep jump in the eurozone, but it's actually less than what the current exchange rate from US dollar to Euro is, if you add 20 percent VAT.

This is followed by the MEG X670E ACE for US$799/€969, which doesn't look like a particularly attractive option. Finally we have the MEG X670E Godlike, which retails for US$1299/€1599, but with early listings in Europe showing it at €2399. It puts the Godlike more in line with the previous Godlike board from MSI, but it's likely to be one of the most expensive X670E boards on the market. It's mentioned in the live stream that prices are expected to come down sometime after the initial launch and this is something we've also heard from other motherboard vendors. MSI aren't mincing any words about their pricing, but that's not going to help anyone interested in getting onboard AMD's AM5 platform. With only a couple of days to go until the official retail availability of the Ryzen 7000-series CPUs and accompanying X670 and X670E motherboards, early pricing of the motherboards are starting to crop up in Europe. Courtesy of @momomo_us we now have pricing from an unknown European retailer for 11 ASUS models, as well as MSI's Godlike board. We also managed to dig up some additional pricing over at Geizhals, which is a European price comparison site, for five ASRock models and one from Gigabyte. Hopefully we're looking at placeholder pricing here, as it's not looking good in terms of value for money. Admittedly, ASUS is known for charging a premium over its competitors, but it's not looking good anywhere right now.

Starting with @momomo_us pricing and MSI for no specific reason, its upcoming MEG X670E Godlike is listed at €2,399 and that doesn't include any kind of liquid cooling accessories. This has to be one of the most expensive consumer motherboards ever, if this is the actual retail pricing it'll sell for. Moving over to ASUS, its Prime X670-P model is listed at €418.53, with the WiFi version jumping to €446.89. This is the first indicator that these are not the actual retail prices, as WiFi versions of motherboards tend to have a $/€/£10-20 premium over non-WiFi models. We're not going to go over every individual board price here, simply look at the attached pictures, but based on these early prices, ASUS has two models for well over €1,000, the ROG Crosshair X670E Hero and the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, with the latter being listed at €1,486.95.

Leading global motherboard manufacturer, ASRock, has built new BIOS decreasing AM5 booting time. ASRock is dedicated to providing products with the best user-experience. The new BIOS providing better compatibility and shorter booting time has been built, and it will be available on ASRock website after product launch. Besides, all ASRock X670E/X670 motherboards support BIOS flashback, which allows users to update their motherboards to the newest BIOS with merely 24-pin power supply and a USB drive.[Editor's Note: This news post will provide more context.]

MSI has put up the pricing of its upcoming X670E and X670 motherboards on its website and it's already causing a stir online, as MSI seems to have priced itself out of the market. Starting at the bottom of the product stack, where the Pro X670-P WiFi sits at US$289.99, which should be compared to the X570-A Pro (without WiFi) which retails for around $110. Admittedly we don't know the exact pricing of MSI's competitors at this point in time, but this seems like a very steep price for a lower-end board in the category. However, things don't improve, as the MPG X670E Carbon WiFi comes in at US$479.99, or about $200 more than its X570S counterpart is currently selling for. This is also at least $70 more than what we expect Gigabyte's X670E Aorus Master to sell at.

Next step up is the MEG X670E ACE which comes in at a steep $699.99, which is at least $100 more than what Gigabyte's X670E Aorus Xtreme is expected to sell for and around twice the current retail price of the MEG X570 ACE Gaming. Finally, MSI is asking for a whopping US$1,299.99 for the MEG X670E Godlike, a price we can't see many being willing to pay for what appears to be a fairly unexciting flagship board, at least compared to what we've seen from ASUS. It's obviously far from the first $1,000 plus board, but despite a fairly feature packed bundle, this board is simply bad value for money no matter how you look at it. Hopefully MSI will adjust their pricing based on the comments that are already posted around the internet, but we're going to have to wait until the official retail date to see if these boards will come down in price or not.
