Alphacool Eiskoffer Professional Overview

Value and Conclusion

  • The Alphacool Eiskoffer Professional costs €199.99 (incl. VAT) from the Alphacool web shop. For customers in the USA, it can be had for ~$210 from Aquatuning or ModMyMods. The individual parts are also available separately from these retailers.
  • Comprehensive kit with plenty of options for bending, measuring, and cutting hard tubing
  • Price savings compared to purchasing these items individually
  • Good build quality overall with nylon/metal parts in a thick stainless steel case
  • Bending plate offers a large working surface for multiple operations without having to start from scratch
  • Flex mandrels give more freedom in conjunction with the curved section in the bending plate, compared to fixed mandrels
  • Easy to secure and use mandrels, and fitting stoppers allow for no give during bending
  • Expensive as an accessory kit
  • Instructions need to be better, especially for such items as the 45° and 90° mandrels
  • No heat gun included or even available as a first-party purchase in most countries without needing adapters
As mentioned on the first page, this is an overview due to my lack of experience with similar products, so it would not be fair to judge this by itself and score it. The conclusion is thus not going to have a score or an award, if applicable, although if I end up covering another such kit from another company, I will likely update this in order to make it a full-fledged review instead.

For those curious, the math is in favor of this kit as the individual items go past the price point well before the metal briefcase even comes into the picture. If this kit interests you, this will be the best buy even from an economic point of view unless you just need some specific items, in which case Alphacool has you covered as well. At $210, this is hard to justify for most people, though, when a heat gun will at the very least add another $20. I would have liked to see a plastic case version at a lower price point, and Alphacool is considering this option, but could not say if it would ever come to fruition. But as the name hints, the Eiskoffer Professional is better served for enthusiasts and professional modders with a need for a permanent set of tools to use across multiple builds.

Here is also where the irony lies: Alphacool is not the first to come up with such a kit, and a lot of their target audience would either already have their own tools or would be able to get them from manufacturers as part of a sponsored build deal. Thus, the available market is reduced significantly for every such product, and it ends up being the user base with disposable income that wants to put forth personally appealing aesthetic preferences with a DIY watercooled build. I don't see anything wrong with this; after all, most people who do take that extra step to custom watercool a PC would also be more willing than others to spend more on tools to help achieve that specific tubing layout they wish to have. Alphacool has a good option here in the Eiskoffer Professional, but a price cut and better video guide that goes through everything in more detail would help their cause all the more.
