Power Consumption
Let's check how much power the AS-606T needs in sleep, idle, and during heavy throughput.
We use two professional power analyzers, a Prova WM-01 and a GW Instek GPM-8212, for all power consumption measurements.
Sleep, Idle and Load
Overall power consumption is low for a six disk NAS server; however, we would like to see lower wattage consumption with the disks in standby mode.
Power Consumption in Standby
Vampire power or phantom load is the amount of power that a device consumes when it is switched off while still plugged into the power grid. This value should, according to the ErP Lot 6 2010 directive, be below 1W, and the future 2013 directive lowers this threshold to 0.5W.
In standby and with the EuP option enabled, the NAS easily meets the ErP Lot 6 2013 requirements. Even with EuP disabled, power consumption is lower than 2 W, so this device's carbon footprint remains low regardless at all times.
Power Consumption Comparison Graphs
While in standby, the AS-606T is more economic than its direct competitor, the QNAP TS-669 Pro, but it consumes slightly more energy during idle and normal operation.
