A Closer Look - Outside

At first, it really looks as though someone took a 350D and stepped on it. The 250D is smaller but wider and makes a great impression in terms of quality and design. Corsair did a good job in incorporating the looks of the Obsidian series into this tiny Mini-ITX chassis.

The entire front is lined with an aluminum plate and a plastic base. You may remove a large portion of the front to reveal a large cooling fan the Obsidian 250D comes equipped with right out of the box. It has been placed behind a dust filter to keep dust and grime out of the interior. Turning the chassis around, it becomes apparent that the PSU is underneath the motherboard area. This is an approach taken by most Mini-ITX cube cases out there.

Taking a closer look at the front, the bottom holds a tiny Corsair logo. It has been silkscreened onto the panel. In the top are two USB 2.0 and the usual pair of audio connectors, as well as the power and reset buttons.

The chassis' bottom compartment holds the hard drives and up to a fully sized PSU. Above the compartment is the opening for the motherboard and its two expansion slots, so you may install a GPU that spans over two of these slots. You may also install two 80 mm fans there if you like, and there is a bit of space to the left of the motherboard. Corsair left this part empty to allow for liquid cooling units within the compact 250D.

Both sides of the Obsidian 250D are perforated to allow for cool air to enter and hot air to exit the enclosure. You can see a 120 mm fan through one of these grills. This brings the total of such cooling units within the Obsidian 250D up to two.

Corsair also placed a small window into the top. It allows you to show off all the bits and pieces that count, while hiding the cables and boring drives. Tipping the chassis on its side only reveals a dust filter, which you may simply pull out the back of the chassis without having to flip the Obsidian 250D around.
