Corsair T1 Race Gaming Chair Review

A Closer Look & Usage Experience »

Initial impression & Assembly

There is an illustrated user's manual that looks more like a book since it is written in eight different languages, and Corsair also provides a short instructions video on how to build the chair. Since we have kind of become experts in assembling chairs, we thought we wouldn't have to read through the manual or watch the video.

The vivid black and yellow colors immediately caught our attention. The quality of the colors impressed us positively right away. We then spotted the armrests that looked as though they were made out of carbon fiber, but once we removed the protective membrane, we realized that they were made out of plastic, with a pattern that resembles carbon fiber. Nevertheless, the texture feels superior and fits nicely into the whole gaming-design appearance. The PU leather covering the chair is attractive and seems to be of good quality. Nothing is set in stone, however, until after we have tried it out for a while. This is why we fully evaluate every gaming chair that arrives in our lab for at least a month, with more than three people checking it out and sharing their thoughts and opinions with us at the end of it all.

Since almost all the screws are pre-installed, only a few had to be screwed in. With everything assembled, though, we came to the conclusion that the gas lift was malfunctioning and that there was some kind of an issue with the wheels. We contacted Corsair immediately only to find out that everything was written inside that user's manual we had intentionally neglected to read, with a special warning for the gas lift!

In order for the gas lift to work properly, the red protective cover should have been removed before installing it to the base of the chair. Moreover, the wheels should have been inserted into the base by pressing the studs firmly. Other than for these two simple but meaningful instructions we missed, assembly was quick and easy since we only had to insert the casters into the five-star base and attach the backrest and sitting area to the base.

The chair's plastic back covers feel awkward and will probably give you a headache during the chair's assembly. We even managed to damage the plastic connectors with our efforts to mount those covers onto the holes on each side of the chair. Given our bad experience, we can fully understand the reason behind having two extra sets included. To attach these covers properly, you have to make sure they align or you will end up with a pair less. Just for the record, we did end up with a pair less since the right cover's connector broke. We weren't able to attach it properly even after removing the broken right cover and inserting the second one. The right seat's back cover would pop up each time someone tilted back the backrest.

Finally, we should mention that the only tool we used was an M8 Allen key, which Corsair includes. We used the Allen key for dealing with the four screws under the seat and the two screws at its sides.
