The REVOLUTION D.F. X 1200 W had no issues completing our full range of tests. The efficiency of the unit is very high for an 80 Plus Gold rated PSU, easily meeting its targets even at increased ambient temperature. High efficiency is even achieved at low loads with the PSU reaching almost 85% efficiency at just 5% of the rated capacity and exceeding 90% when the load is at 10%.

When it comes to the fan operation, just as specified by Enermax, the fan started spinning as we exceeded the 20% load mark. The ramp up of the fan was fairly quick with RPMs going straight to almost 1200 RPM. While that might seem quite high, the noise output was still quite well controlled. However, at the 70% load mark the RPMs increased quite sharply and so did the noise output, reaching the maximum rated RPM at the 100% load mark.

Overall the voltage regulation is well within the ATX spec. The +12 V voltage is regulated very well, with some higher than 2% deviation at the 5% load marker for the two minor rails. While we definitely have seen better performance, the results are still solid.

Ripple

Ideally you want the DC voltage delivered by your power supply to be a completely flat line when looking through an oscilloscope. However, due to the switching nature of ATX power supplies and the less than ideal real world behavior of all the components involved, we get very small fluctuations in output voltage, known as ripple and noise. The ATX spec allows a ripple of up to 120 mV for the +12 V rail and 50 mV for the minor rails.

While not record-breaking, the REVOLUTION D.F. X 1200 W performs well within the ATX specification for ripple. No unexpected spikes or other lower frequency abnormalities were observed throughout testing.

Below you can find an image of the ripple recorded at 110% of the PSU load.

Short Circuit Protection

Short circuit protection is one of the most fundamental and important protections for a power supply. If a short circuit is detected on any rails, the PSU should turn off and prevent damage to itself and other components.
