A quick notation here before diving into the motherboard section. Because of the ongoing AMD SoC mishap of CPUs melting down, AMD has started to roll out mandatory
AGESA 1.0 0.7 BIOS revisions that limits the SoC to 1.3 V. However, this isn't enforced by all vendors (yet). Using the newest BIOS F8d for this X670 AORUS Elite AX, besides giving you a warning when manually adjusting the SoC voltage, all the set maximum voltage limits are still the same from the previous BIOS revision. F8d BIOS still is using
AGESA 1.0 0.6, as listed in the patch notes, which may explain why higher voltages is still allowed. Even so, it is important to update to BIOS F8d or newer if you are going to enable XMP/EXPO memory profiles. This is because older version would match the DRAM voltage to the SoC voltage automatically. It has been confirmed to no longer do this with BIOS F8d (latest BIOS at the time of publication).
Gigabyte rarely deviates in terms of BIOS layout for the AORUS series. If you had a AMD based Gigabyte AORUS motherboard in the past 5 years, most things will be found in the same places. Upon entering the BIOS the first time you will be greeted with the Easy Mode menu. This menu is designed for casual users, who do not want to dive deep into the BIOS settings. Here you can set the memory profile, drive boot priority and adjust the fans. Once you press F2 you will enter the main Advanced BIOS. Here we can see the return of the Favorites Menu, which is great for those who are constantly in the BIOS making similar changes. This menu allows you to add commonly used functions into one place without having to dig through all the sub menus each time.
Over at the Tweakers tab is where all the CPU and memory related settings are found. If you're at all familiar with AMD Gigabyte AORUS motherboards, you'll feel right at home, since many of the previous CPU functions are present in the new platform as well. Usually a majority of these settings will be left on AUTO, but say for instance you need to disable ReSize Bar support, it can be found in the same place for all the AORUS X670/B650 motherboards. Along with the newest BIOS revision, a new warning message has been added related to increasing the SoC voltage beyond 1.3 V. It won't stop some users, and you can still do some damage playing around with different voltages. It is also suggested to use caution when adjusting voltages. In my opinion, Gigabyte doesn't do a good enough job letting the user know which are within the safe zone and what values may be dangerous to apply. This will require users to research what is within the "safe" limits for CPU overclocking, something Gigabyte fails to disclose.
