A Closer Look

Overall, the heatsink has a very straightforward design as it is your standard single tower cooler with U-shaped heat pipes. Cut outs in the fins allow for the wire of the RGB LEDs in the top plate to be run cleanly without it interfering with the fan blades, which is a nice touch. It also keeps the wiring contained and makes for a much neater appearance than if run down the side.

The heatsink itself is comprised of 46 aluminium fins with a saw tooth-like design and receive heat from the four heatpipes.

The top plate is simply screwed in place and looks quite nice with only minimal accents for the lighting, which should keep it tasteful. As for the heat pipes and base, the cooler uses Direct Touch technology, which has the four heat pipes making up the base directly touch the CPU IHS. When it comes to the heat pipes, they are slightly offset, but that won't have much of an impact due to the limited surface area. Fit and finish of the base is a bit rough with heavy machining marks visible. I can say they were not noticeable to the touch, but even so, this is one of the rougher finishes I have seen as of late. Hopefully, the next evolution of this design gets a bit more attention here.

The 120 mm RGB fan supplied with the SE 224 RGB is your standard 25 mm thick offering and has model number ID-12025M12B. It is a PWM model and has an RPM range of 900–2000.
