LaCie iamaKey 8 GB Flash Drive Review

Performance

HDTach gives us an unusual performance curve. We got the same result on three different PCs running Windows XP or Windows 7. Turns out the first 256 MB section of the drive is rather fast, but then drops down to just over 18 MB/s. That is far from the 30 MB/s promised. Too bad that Lacie did not manage to combine performance with usability here. Access times on the other hand are excellent, topping our list of USB flash drives and sharing that spot with a couple of other drives.

As you can see, the iamaKey is right in the middle of the tested USB Flash drives with 18.4 MB/s. Not really fast, but most budget sticks, with no advertised speed will perform similar.

Due to the fast flash at the beginning of the drive, we manage to tickle over 34 MB/s read speed out of it along with a respectable 11 MB/s write speed using ATTO. This tool does not cover the entire drive but goes for specific file sizes instead.
