Lexar Professional 8GB 300x UDMA Compact Flash Review

Value & Conclusion

  • The Lexar Professional 300x 8 GB UDMA Compact Flash Card retails for around 75€. This puts the card right in the bunch of other 300x variants from other manufacturers.
  • Excellent write speed
  • Excellent read speed
  • Justified price/performance
  • Performance rivals that of small form factor hard drives
  • Great random access times
  • Should be able to handle any of latest generation DSLR cameras you throw at it
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Requires very little power
  • No moving parts
  • Interesting for extremely small PCs
  • Currently tops out at 8 GB, may be a bit small for some operating systems
The Lexar CompactFlash Card Professional UDMA 300x 8 GB unit looks like any other such device out there. It delivers the read speed you would expect from a 300x card, but the read speed makes it really shine with speeds close to 40 MB/s. This makes the card a great choice as a bootable drive, besting all other CF cards we have had to test up to date.
The falling prices of SSD drives do limit the use of the card as a boot drive, but if you're going for for an extremely small form factor PC and are looking for some solid price at great performance, the Lexar 300x UDMA Compact Flash Card will certainly not dissapoint. The one big downside is the limited size of 8 GB, but Lexar is already working on a 16 GB version.
