A Closer Look

As mentioned before, the mouse ships with two covers. These do not only differ in texture but in size as well. Both fit well into a palm, even one as small as mine, but the smaller one fit a bit better and the added texture increases the overall grip of the mouse. Logitech also offers further variants for purchase in their own webstore.

Exchanging the covers is very easy. Simply hit the eject button on the rear of the G9 and then remove the released cover. The contraption holds these covers in place very well and you will not notice anything moving during gaming.

The front of the G9 holds a few interesting features. The first is the scroll wheel which is made of metal with a rubber grip on top. It feels great and should make use within games a pleasure. It also acts as a third mouse button if needed. The main buttons are slightly concave and fell extremely well. There is a small two sided button below the left one, which changes the DPI setting of the mouse. This can be done on the fly and does not require any software.

The underside holds two buttons, one toggles the "clicking" for the wheel on and off. When this is disabled, the wheel can be spun to surf long websites or scroll through documents quickly. The other button is used to switch between profiles stored on the device. This means that you will not need the Logitech software installed on a guest maschine to gain access to your favorite settings.

The rear of the mouse also holds a tray, which can be accessed after removing the cover. It can hold up to four of the weights.

With this system you can adjust the overall weight of the G9 and add up to 28g to the mouse. While this is a great feature, one notices that the weight is located toward the rear of the mouse during movement, as the center of gravity is pulled back.
