Logitech has decided to utilize their SetPoint 5.0 software for the G9 Laser Mouse. This means that you should know what to expect if you have used a device from the manufacturer before. Installation is quick and easy as it features a clean, custom skin to guide you through the installation. No restart is required and the application can be accessed right away.
Installation Process
The SetPoint software for the G9 has a lot of features and you may have to sit down and play around with it for a while to find all possible settings. The Overview pane is the first thing you will see once opening the application. It shows you what each of the profiles is set at with all the details and if an application is assigned for which the profile is automatically used. The subsequent menus give you the possibility to change any of the settings and then store these within the profile of your choice.
You may even set how the DPI switch is to react on the X and Y axis. This means that you could reduce the jumps between each setting or even decide that the highest possible entry is lower than the G9's maximum. The scroll speed of vertical and horizontal scrolling can be adjusted as well. The last screenshot shows the profile library and which of them are currently active. This means that you could have a long list of specific profiles and just take those three along on the G9's memory which you require for a LAN party for example.
Logitech also gives the user the possibilty to record a series of keystrokes and combine them as a macro. This makes tasks like buying equipment at the beginning of a gaming round a breeze. The last two menu items simply show the firmware version of the mouse and the software version. You also have the ability to update both of these from within the software itself.
