Moon Key Artisan Keyboard Wrist Rests and Keycaps

Keycaps: Lotus and Fire Dragon

The final two keycaps are quite separate from the astronaut theme and contain flora and fauna, again to where they are a better fit with the Koi Pond wrist rest. The first of these I was quite excited to see given it has rave reviews from customers. Named simply the Lotus keycap, it has a miniature clay lotus flower preserved in resin. As with the Last Astronaut keycap we saw before, it is in a R1 SA profile. It allows plenty of room for the clear, polished resin to show off the lotus inside, which is deposited on clay "lotus leaves" and a base of sorts. The colors are well executed, and there is plenty of detail, and the contrast between various elements makes this a highly appealing first artisan keycap for most. The clear resin also allows for some backlighting compatibility, which sheds light around the flower as seen above.

The final keycap and entry is the Fire Dragon keycap, which is—for me anyway—an inspired take on the dragon Smaug hoarding gold in the mountain. It's different enough to where it could be something else entirely, but the general design remains that of a dragon over a mountain with treasure on the side. This too uses the R1 SA profile and is a mix of resin and clay as before. The handmade nature results in some gaps in the mountain peak on my keycap, which are incidentally at the very top. As such, backlighting shines through to where you could make it seem like fire is flowing from the mountain too.

Seen above are two photos of these two keycaps and the Koi Pond wrist rest combined, making for the second such set now. Of course, these are not as fitting a theme as before, but it gives you a better idea of how small the inserts in the two keycaps are compared to the single Koi fish in the wrist rest itself.

Under the microscope, we get two very different stories. The Lotus keycaps holds up quite well with only a small air bubble I had not even noticed with my eyes, and the clay models for the lotus flower and leaves are still detailed. The Fire Dragon keycap, on the other hand, has a poorly detailed dragon insert set on the mountain that's breaking up more than I'd like. If anything, it is that gold bauble that is the best-looking piece here. Both of these keycaps are somehow even thicker than the previous two, with a 2.3 mm thick wall.
