Nanoxia Deep Silence 5 Rev. B Review

A Closer Look - Inside

Made out of a good amount of steel, both side panels are quite heavy. Nanoxia lined the main panel with a different, thicker and more effective sound-dampening material. The opposing side sports a thinner variant.

To access to the interior, simply remove the thumbscrews holding each panel in place. The interior has a traditional layout, but Nanoxia went all out and included an additional hard-drive cage within the Deep Silence 5 Rev. B. The motherboard tray comes with plenty of openings for cable-routing purposes, but only a few hooks to pin any cables down with zip ties, although with 25 mm of room, you at least have plenty of space to do so.

Why Nanoxia included six extra hard-drive trays becomes apparent after having taken a look at the drive cages in front. Out of the box, the chassis has one of the lower cages filled with a 2.5" drive cage, while the second smaller variant is empty. Both of these can hold a total of six traditional drives instead. It is interesting to see that Nanoxia simply chose not to fill the second cage with trays right off the bat by including the remaining three within the extras instead.

You may remove the top cage, but may also take the remaining out two if you feel like it. This will create room for a thick 280 mm radiator in front, with the ability to utilize the hard-drive cage in the middle of the chassis. Last but not least, the top of the front is filled with four 5.25" drive bays, each equipped with a screw-less locking mechanism. If you look closely, you can see a plastic 5.25'' to 3.5" tray in the bottom-most drive bay you may install a smaller, externally accessible device to.

The aforementioned PSU bay in the back comes with four little rubber bumps to kill any vibrations. Above the bay are the motherboard-expansion slots, each with a cover held in place by a black thumbscrew for easy tool-less access. In the very top is the third fan. 140 mm large, it pushes air out through the back of the chassis.

Both vents in the top are covered by plastic covers that are lined with thick sound-dampening material. These ensure there are no openings in the top, sides, or front through which system components can be heard.

All cables within the Deep Silence 5 are sleeved black to match the interior. Aside from the now-standard plugs for both case connectivity and I/O, you will find a single Molex plug to power the two fan controllers and a total of six connectors for 3-pin fans. You can control a set of up to three fans each with the sliders at the front of the Deep Silence 5.
