Table of Acronyms

The following table goes over the material acronyms you will come across while searching for a gaming or office chair. Not only does this table go over what each acronym stands for, but the material traits of each entry are also detailed.

Assembly

We start by installing the caster wheels onto the five-star base, which doesn't necessitate being strong. We then put the hydraulics onto the wheels' base and the dust cover shroud over it. In order for the tilt mechanism to be properly installed, we have to turn the seat's base upside down and install the four screws and washers with the provided (in the bundle) Allen key. Two levers are included and need to be inserted into the metal handles. There is a label with a warning on the tilt mechanism, which has to face towards the front. The seat needs to be attached to the hydraulics after that.

To install the backrest, pull the backrest's tilt lever up, but be mindful of keeping your hands off the chair as you do so or you might injure yourself. As you will notice, the warning label covers the openings for the screws. The openings on the metal brackets need to be aligned to the corresponding openings on the backrest in order for the screws to be inserted correctly. The seat-mount covers have to be secured next, which is done with the two remaining screws. The seat-mount covers were quite a headache to apply with our sample. We used a series of tools, including a powerful pro-grade electric screwdriver, to install these in place firmly. A plain screwdriver just isn't up to the task.

The last part of installation is very easy - the two pillows that come with the ICON chair are to be put into place. The neck pillow slides over the chair's upper part with its elastic band facing towards the rear of the backrest, while the lumbar-support pillow is literally thrown over the chair since no straps are attached to it. However, we did notice that the lumbar-support pillow is illustrated and described as having an elastic suspender in our assembly manual. Upon inquiry, noblechairs stated this to be a misprint, a remnant from the EPIC series pillow attachment's instructions that will be corrected shortly.

Initial Impression

We find it hard to choose when it comes to which feature impressed us the most. The unique design that doesn't follow through on those elements we are used to is certainly one, with the black/cognac color combination being another.

We were already aware of the quality materials noblechairs used for its products, but were simply dazzled by their precision diamond pattern stitching they had implemented this time around.

This chair addresses both gamers and plain users due to its neutral pattern. It doesn't scream to be put into a gamer's room; nor does it put a lid on any other specific working environment.

The ICON chair bears a steel frame and an aluminum five-star base. The class 4 gas lift is able to withstand a bodyweight of up to 180 kg (396.83 lb), but noblechairs recommends a body weight of up to 150 kg (330.7 lb) only, which also applies to other chairs that are in the medium-high price range.

The ICON is made out of open-celled, dimensionally stable, flexible cold foam, which offers the desired stability and range of anatomical compatibility when used. This type of foam is mostly used in the automotive industry, as a flexible mold-type foam for cushions and seats, which warrants comfort over longer periods of use. However, users accustomed to softer cushioning will take some time to get used to the ICON's cushioning. Personally, we found the ICON's cushioning to be rather hard in comparison to other chairs; at least at first.

The top grain leather is obviously well processed, and as is the case with real leather, its scent besieges you the minute you start unpacking the backrest or sitting base. You do, however, also realize why this ICON chair comes at its premium price tag as soon as your hands touch the lavish upholstery.
