RAID Operations
In this scenario, we perform RAID rebuild and sync operations during which we measure the time the NAS needs to complete these tasks, along with the average power consumption for these rebuild and sync periods. In NAS servers with four bays or more, we rebuild and sync RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 6 arrays, while in smaller two-bay NAS servers, we are confined to a RAID 1 array. The Bitmap option is disabled in NAS servers that support it in order to produce comparable results, since the option speeds up RAID rebuild times.
QNAP TS-451+ 8G |

Operation | Time | AVG Power Consumption |

RAID 1 Sync | 2:50:46 | 23.68 W |

RAID 1 Rebuild | 1:14:49 | 27.74 W |

RAID 5 Sync | 3:18:35 | 35.50 W |

RAID 5 Rebuild | 1:14:47 | 36.67 W |

RAID 6 Sync | 2:45:44 | 36.79 W |

RAID 6 Rebuild | 1:58:11 | 37.26 W |

Synchronizing RAID arrays took much longer than rebuilding them. QNAP unfortunately doesn't provide an option for fast RAID creation, so you will need to be patient. You will thankfully only have to do so once, during the NAS's initial setup.
