A Closer Look - Inside
To gain access to the chassis, simply unscrew the top panel and pull it off. The interior of the FC5 OD is all black and constructed of Aluminum as well. Considering the overall size, the simple interior is a good thing.
The optical drive bay is specifically designed to take a slimline slot-in optical drive. Streacom also includes the tiny screws for such a drive. You will have to take it off to install the drive unto it. Four screws hold the tray in place and are quickly removed when needed.
A small PCB has been placed where the power button is. A white cable connected to this circuit board enables the functionality of the power button and blue LED. As you can see, there is a possibility to install an IR receiver here - as there are two spacers for screws within the chassis, but this seems to be an additional accessory.
Two Aluminum blocks for the heatpipes ship pre-applied to the chassis, with a third one part of the contents package. You can move these around a bit due to multiple holes to screw them down on. As we will see later on, this is a good thing.
