Network Services
Web Station, in short, allows you to create a website that is entirely hosted on your Synology NAS. Built-in PHP and MySQL support makes creating dynamic, database-driven websites for your business possible. The NAS only has minimal energy requirements, so you don't have to worry about increasing the electricity bills by hooking it up to a steady, fast, and reliable net connection—the DS214play can easily handle the workload of a light webpage.
If your web connection doesn't have a static IP, which is more expensive than a dynamic one, you can register a DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) hostname. The latter allows your NAS to be accessed from anywhere since you will know its address on the net.
QuickConnect is a solution that can help client applications connect to your NAS over the Internet without setting up any port-forwarding rules.
These options allow you to set up your router, and set port forwarding rules. Note that configuring port forwarding rules requires you to assign a static IP address to the router, which takes administrative rights.
A built-in firewall can prevent unauthorized logins and controls which services can be accessed. You can also allow or deny access to certain networking ports from specific IP addresses. This group even allows you to control outgoing traffic of services running on your NAS.
Auto Block gives you the ability to prevent unauthorized logins. Once you enable this service, an IP address will be blocked if it has too many failed login attempts.
The Terminal service option can be enabled through these settings. Enable it and you can use Telnet or SSH protocols to log into your Synology NAS.
The SNMP service allows users to monitor the server's network flow through the appropriate managerial software.
