Value and Conclusion

  • The Thermaltake Divider 550 TG Ultra has an MSRP of US$249.99 excl. taxes. That is a price premium of US$100 over the 500 TG ARGB, which doesn't have the screen.
  • Cool 3.9" LCD screen embedded into the front
  • Three beautifully framed glass panels in the same color as the case
  • Four fans included, of which three are ARGB
  • Can hold 360 mm AIO in front and up to 280 mm AIO in the ceiling without issue
  • Mounting frames for fans or AIO make for easier assembly
  • Robust use of materials
  • Plenty of storage space, up to seven drives
  • Well-rounded I/O for a case of this price segment
  • Quiet for a case with four fans and limited fan-speed control
  • Expansion slots may be rotated for vertical GPU mounting
  • Split metal panel design
  • Magnetic dust filter behind metal panel
  • Easily removable dust filter on underside
  • Side-mounting for two 120 mm fans
  • Wire for LCD with additional Micro-USB for additional screens
  • TT RGB Plus 2.0 software rough around the edges
  • No extra side panel included, compared to the 500 TG series
  • Front dust filter is gone, compared to the 500 TG ARGB
  • Fans cannot be accessed and controlled with software
  • Side radiator and fan setup a bit limited for GPU length and fan or radiator size
  • Very basic ARGB controller with no fan-speed control or expandability
  • Proprietary front fan connectors
  • No way to connect multiple ARGB Thermaltake components to each other
The Thermaltake Divider 550 TG Ultra is quite the interesting case. From a pricing perspective, it marks a $100 premium over the 500 TG ARGB, which is essentially the same chassis without the display. From that perspective, it is a justified spread to get that beautifully embedded, unique 3.9" screen while retaining all chassis functionality. On the flip side, Thermaltake stopped providing alternative side panels and the front dust filter with the Divider 550 Ultra, so it is not quite as pure a "Divider chassis" as other offerings in the product line. But even so, the 550 TG Ultra looks beautiful with its nicely shaped, full glass panel.

Within the enclosure, you naturally get the same build experience as with the 500 TG ARGB, which provides a solid frame, removable glass panels, fan and radiator mounting frames, and that internal layout. This means a clean interior is achievable, but requires a bit of extra work and creativity, especially when including the additional leads from the display and something as special as the TOUGHLIQUID Ultra 260, for example.

The 3.9" LCD screen provides a large variety of useful data and plenty of customizability alongside the tangible fun factor, so if you have your heart set on the Divider 500 TG series, spending that extra money may just be worth the investment, especially if holding on to it for a while. The achilles heel is the software, which feels a bit rough around the edges, with UI and UX decisions which are hard to comprehend as an user. Once you get used to its quirks, it does the job of driving the embedded screen well enough, so we can recommend the 550 TG Ultra. However, improving the software and adding TT RGB Plus 2.0 fans instead of the basic proprietary 6-pin variants for a small price premium would really tie the case together nicely.
