TT RGB PLUS 2.0 Software

To control and drive useful data to these screens, you have to install the TT RGB Plus 2.0 application. It is a 113 MB download for its current version, and the installation is pretty straightforward. The first screen greeting you illustrates one shortcoming of the Divider 550 TG Ultra: The proprietary fan connectors and basic PCB combination cannot be controlled by the software. While this was somewhat acceptable for the Divider 500 variants, at a price point above $300, it is not something you want. Instead, Thermaltake could have easily included a TT SYNC-capable controller and appropriate fans in exchange for the missing dust filter and additional side panels.

Beside that initial panel, which has no real function in our setup, the "My PC" tab gives you a nice overview of the hardware setup and its temperatures (Editor's Note: Yes, that is a Celeron in this setup, just to get things up and running). Unfortunately, for the same reason as mentioned above, the "My fans" tab is completely blank. Thermaltake could at least use that space to up-sell their relevant products with links to their site, for example. Alternatively, at the very least, the software should be smart enough to hide areas of the app that are of no use.

So, it really comes down to the third tab called "Lighting." It seems a bit odd given this is all about the display. Here, the Divider 550 TG Ultra and THOUGHLIQUID Ultra are correctly detected as individual displays. You may select from a wide range of data sets on either, and customize the appearance of each panel. In addition to that, the TT RGB Plus 2.0 app gives you the option to upload an image or GIF, but you need to ensure it is of the right dimensions, as a black screen will be displayed otherwise.

In general, what Thermaltake is trying to achieve with the software is pretty clear, but some further development is needed for it to be complete, and fully functional. Also, speaking as someone who works in software development, in terms of UI and UX, some choices and implementations are far from any Windows guidelines or standards, which also hampers the user experience a bit.

Settings

There is a settings panel for the proper setup of elements, like units and what happens during system boot. But oddly enough, Thermaltake also hid actual features, like start-up animation setup, which should live in the main area of the app.
