Driver

Even though we can use the keyboard without installing any software, you will want to install the Tt eSPORTS suite to get the most out of it.

Unfortunately, Windows 10 actually flagged the software as a virus on our first attempt, which I hope Thermaltake resolves soon. Some people might be put off by this and will simply not install it. I, however, disabled Windows defender and allowed it to install.

As soon as I started, the software recognized that my firmware was out of date and asked me to update it.

Accepting the request, I was taken to this screen, which downloaded and updated my firmware quickly and easily.

Once it had finished, I was taken to this screen, the home screen. It allows you to change profiles, set up your color schemes, assign keys, and more.

Recording a macro is very simple and actually gives us a lot of options as we can set delays, use multiple keys, and set mouse buttons to keystrokes easily. When in Game mode, each key can be reassigned to carry out another function than in Normal mode.

The other main use of the software is to create our own unique color schemes for the Tt eSPORTS Poseidon Z RGB as each key is able to be individually set to a color of your choice. I had some fun and created the following lighting scheme:

Once I applied the colors, the keyboard looked like this! As you can see, all the colors match those on the diagram, and as I forgot to do the space bar, it is completely dark.

My favorite setting out of these, however, is this wave effect, Ok, this .gif doesn't really do it justice, but it gives you an idea; it is so pretty!

Performance

Kailh switches have been gaining popularity lately and for good reason as they are far cheaper than some of their counterparts, such as Cherry or Gateron, which you might clue in on if you switch between switches often. As long as companies pass such savings on to the customer, these switches are a very good compromise. Typing on Kailh Blues feels great as there is good tactile feedback and their actuation point is well positioned. I can feel a difference compared to Cherry MX Blues, but it is minimal. Once I had used the Tt eSPORTS Poseidon Z RGB for some time, my typing speed improved, and I was able to comfortable type up this review.

The LEDs are bright and work well, with many features that can actually help users with some of their functions. The LEDs react to your touch, allowing you to visually see which key is being pressed, for instance. While this function isn't of much use to me as I touch-type, I can certainly understand its appeal. Most of the other functions are more of a novelty, but they are certainly fun to use and look very nice.
