User Experience
Overall, this chair is exceptionally comfortable and user-friendly. Although it does not have the multitude of micro-adjustments that some chairs have, it has enough to provide me with excellent comfort for extended time periods of sitting. I sometimes find that the more adjustments I have, the more time I spend worrying about adjusting anyway.
The chair uses, apparently, coffee bean grinds of all things, in their HygennX technology to eliminate and prevent odor. The seat material has some kind of silver-coated nanotech to prevent bacteria and eliminate odor as well. The seat is quite breathable for how thick and comfortable it is, probably aided by the VertaAir seat tech.
The backrest can be reclined to a very wide angle itself, independent of the seat, or the seat can tilt/recline in combination. It is widely adjustable for your preference. The location of the lever is a little unique, as it protrudes from the chair seat itself somewhat, but it is completely out of the way and does not inhibit use.
There is a traditional lever for raising/lowering the chair on the right, and a tilt-lock lever on the left. Lastly, there is a knob on the bottom for adjusting tilt resistance. This is one of the only nuanced annoyances of this chair, as you pretty much have to get out of the chair to adjust this lever. It is unfortunately just too far below the chair to do so while sitting in it. Maybe if I was the maximum supported height of 6'6 and had extremely long arms, but my 5'10 frame cannot reach it comfortably.
It is comfortable tilted back, or upright, and holds the upright position very well. One of my pet peeves with most modern chairs is they have a lot of trouble holding you forward and upright. Most chairs rock back a little, putting more pressure on your spine/tailbone even in their most "upright" position. This chair holds forward/flat really well and feels very balanced and supported.
I current sit in an ergonomic office chair that is three times the price of the PL4800 and I honestly enjoy this Vertagear seat more, as it is softer, flatter, and more supportive. The seat itself is incredibly plush without feeling like you are sinking or wearing out the cushion. It is supportive and soft, but firm enough to feel like it will last.
The armrests, again compared to my current ergonomic chair, are better in most ways. They are easily adjustable and hold their position well. Once they are set, they stay there, and are very smooth/easy to adjust.
Lastly, this chair looks and feels really well made. The carbon-style outer trim, paired with the suede-like internal material feel high quality and comfortable. The subtle but well-designed Vertagear logos on the headrest, and some subtle queues around the chair, really look nice without being flashy.
