Patriot Launches the Gearbox NAS Device

Patriot Memory, a global pioneer in high-performance memory, NAND flash and computer technology, today announced the release of GearBox; a device that can make any USB 2.0 flash device an instant NAS resource.

GearBox is a simple and convenient way to connect, share and stream your multimedia files in a small economical form factor. Armed with two USB 2.0 connections and boasting features like FTP, Print Server and UPnP support, GearBox has the functionality of larger NAS devices but at the fraction of size and more importantly, cost. Just plug in any USB flash device and instantly get access to your files through your network at your home, work or even across the globe.
"The GearBox is the perfect solution for the consumer that is looking for a fully functional NAS device, but cannot afford one of the pricier models," says Jack Chen, Patriot's Business Development Manager. "GearBox provides convenience and instant accessibility to important files or just to share some family photos, music, or media."

Plug in USB mass storage devices (USB sticks, USB external HDDs or enclosures), plug in to a network, done. It's a NAS (using those USB MS devices as storage).

Again - ANOTHER ARTICLE : "Blah Blah Blah AFFORDABLE Blah Blah Lower Price Blah Blah..."

And not ONE mention of price? Why bother at all?

If yer SOLE selling point is price (As to be sure, this will be thread bear as far as flexibility & features) then don't you think it may be important to MENTION a price? (aimed at Patriot, not you Bt :) )

Me want one that's network to eSATA/USB combo or USB 3.0 :) Awesome idea, though.

I bet they can charge $75 for this and still sell very well.

it should well be compatible with USB hubs as well, so performance is your limit really - for home users, it would be very damned convenient depending on HOW you access the files (EG, needs custom software, NTFS read only, the usual crap for cheap NAS devices)
