Buffalo Announces LinkStation WXL-R1 NAS

Buffalo Japan rolled out its newest NAS server offerings: the LinkStation WXL/R1. This 2-bay NAS comes with drives pre-installed, with capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB, and 3 TB. The storage controller supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 modes. Basic DLNA support that makes it friendly with other consumer electonics devices at home. With its gigabit Ethernet interface, it supports transfer speeds of around 40 MB/s. The NAS is also DTCP-IP compliant that lets you store DTCP-IP copyrighted content. It measures 86 (W) x 127 (H) x 204 (D) mm. A USB 2.0 port provides for further expansion of storage by connecting USB mass storage devices (flash drives, external HDDs, etc). Prices start at around $350 for the 1 TB variant, $460 for the 2 TB, and $580 for the 3 TB variants.

That's about the average speed achieved on a home network. No need to outfit a NAS with higher-end controller when the data is going to passing through a consumer level router/switch.
