Mozilla Firefox Turns Five

Everyone who is more than familiar with the term 'the Internet', may have come across, or has even been affected by Mozilla Firefox, one of the most popular web-browser software. The cross-platform, open-source web-browser was born out of the Mozilla project, after practical, and minimalist simplification of the user interface. This, coupled with good performance for the stature of an Internet Explorer alternative, being safer against spyware, popups, and malicious addon software, quickly became popular, and part of the web-centric pop-culture.

Firefox has also helped shape several things in the connected IT industry. It replenished the credibility of open-source model of software development, and forced content providers to adhere to open-standards. Firefox today turns five years old, which is 'a long time on the Internet', as its team puts it. The SpreadFirefox community have rolled out a portal celebrating the event, it can be found here.

And Seamonkey is like Firefox now since v2 but with more options. I'v always liked Seamonkey ( or it's earlier names ) more than Firefox although i do like Firefox too.

Happy Birthday to both! I tried to make the switch to Chrome, but ended up adding a couple of extensions to Firefox instead :p

Happy birthday to both. Realistically does anyone NOT install firefox on anything they intend to be web browsing on? Only reason I use IE is that we're FORCED to on the school network for some stupid reasons.

*puts hand up* I install Opera, FF never graces my PC, I much prefer Opera over FF.

Still, it's nice to see FF still going, it's programs like FF that are forcing MS to up their game.

I like the speed of Google Chrome, but for everything Chrome can't do, I use FF. :)

without Firefox, the world would still be under the tyranny of Internet Explorer, just as the Book of Mozilla 7:15 has foretold:

"And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced.
But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird.
The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire
and thunder upon them. For the beast had been
reborn with its strength renewed, and the
followers of Mammon cowered in horror."

tryiron.

its chrome without the spyware.
Google's Web browser Chrome thrilled with an extremely fast site rendering, a sleek design and innovative features. But it also gets critic from data protection specialists , for reasons such as creating a unique user ID or the submission of entries to Google to generate suggestions. SRWare Iron is a real alternative. The browser is based on the Chromium-source and offers the same features as Chrome - but without the critical points that the privacy concern.
