I-O Data Intros 24X Capable External DVD-Writer

I-O Data announced a new external DVD-writer, which makes use of a full-sized drive, giving higher speeds. The DVR-UN24GE measures 170 x 240 x 50 mm (W x D x H), tipping the scales at 1.4 kg. It burns DVD-R/DVD+R at 24X, DVD-RAM at 12X, double-layer DVD-R/DVD+R at 8X, and 6X for rewritable DVDs. It uses a USB 2.0 interface. Nero Essentials and WinDVD are bundled. Just about maxes out USB2.0. Nice to see more full size drives that aren't limited to the slim 8x speeds.

it burns DVD-R/DVD+R at 24X<<< shame you'll never get that speed seeing as the fastest DVD+/_ R disks are still what 16x and lucky if you can burn at 18x without errors it's all just pointless marketing hype untill they bring out the disks to let you burn at 24x

Yes, like with CD Burners, after a certain speed people just don't care anymore. And at $140 USD I can't see this being a big seller.
