I think its one of the first boards that featured an integrated RAID Controller (HighPoint).
Must be lacking RAID 5.
EDIT: No, it supports RAID 5. Wow, what's the catch?
And is this some sort of software RAID or is it proper hardware RAID controller?
No cache as such, but they have an NVRAM that caches write operations.
Some performance numbers here www.highpoint-tech.com/PDF/rr2700/RocketRAID_272x_Defeats_MegaRAID_9240_Performance_Report.pdf
I don't get it: 8 SAS RAID 5 sequential write 667MB/s vs 22MB/s
The LSi 9211/9240-8i are priced at 300-350$ and also have no cache.
I had to buy a Perc 5/i (for 89$), but now I'm stuck with 8484 connectors.

I run several Highpoint controllers and I've always been happy with them. And they always seem to offer a great value for the money.
