S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Cancelled

With game studio GSC Game World shutting down, all hope for the much anticipated addition to the franchise, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is lost. The studio abandoned development of the title. It said in a statement: "The reason we cannot continue with the development of Stalker 2 is we and our new investors we unable to come to an agreement with the IP rights owner. The entire team that was working on Stalker is now working on a new project called Survarium. We are so grateful for the support over the years and despite our best efforts we have to move on from Stalker which is as hard for us as it is for you. However, we feel that our new studio and project will be something unique and fill the void left by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as well as add a lot more!"

Oh for fuck sake. Stalker is one of the only games i actually really enjoy on PC.

I seriously hope a decent team gets hold of this game and finishes it.

Now hoping that GSC allows modders access to the partial build. Judging by the work put into Narodnaya Soljanka, and from what I've seen of Lost Alpha, I'm pretty certain that it could be put to good use.

They will probably keep it to work with their new mmofps.

I am the only one here that isn't going to miss Stalker?
I mean the whole idea of open living world sounds great on paper, but I couldn't for the life of me play that game...

The owner for the IP is the CEO of GSC, and the team was unable to get the rights from him. Questions regarding using Kickstarter to raise the money to buy it out, were responded to with "Money wasn't the problem, owner of the IP wouldn't release it to us". There's a Q&A due later today (I tweeted once back and forth with the official GSC Tweeter), but not sure how long or what time, or even where for that matter, but I'd assume Twitter. At this point, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2 is dead, with hopes that the team who was developing it can get close with their MMO. There's a YouTube vid I posted yesterday with the info, I'll try to link it in a min...

I have both stalker games and they are good, but I never got into them like I did Metro 2033. My graphics card at the time 7800GTS didn't play it that great. I tried to go back when I bought the stalkerP on a steam sale for $5.. I had a GTX285 then and it played them great, but Metro 2033 came out... and that was the end of me playing stalker.. hehehe

I like 1:31 background!

But the story that the CEO holds the IP but "wouldnt sell" sounds kind of odd... like there was an attempted coup or mutiny by the programmer/development team to get profit share rather than just salary (or some other such contractual argument).

What a mess! Politics. And the Eastern Bloc!

CEO will now sue the development team for copyright, IP breach, recovery of salaries etc. This will be a saga.
