AMD FX 8150 Cracks 8.80 GHz in New OC Feat

It is no news that AMD FX likes high clock speeds, even if they come at the expense of energy efficiency and heat. It's only when one such chips crosses 8.80 GHz (8805.64 MHz, to be precise), that it makes headlines. Thai overclocker "ksin" claimed to able drive the chip to its record speed using a base clock speed of 303.29 MHz, and multiplier of 29.0x. A scorching 1.86V core voltage was used. Other components include ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard, and 4 GB (2x 2 GB) of ADATA-made memory, clocked at 1417 MHz. Ksin didn't bother providing more details such as method of cooling, and that seems like a reason behind the CPU-Z Validation rejection.

slybunda8.8ghz yet its still slower than an i7 running at 4.5ghz.

amd really need to work on thier instructions per clock rather than the clock speed.

looks like amd stole the design plans for pentium 4 and just modded the netburst architecture a little.
:wtf::rolleyes: :slap:

Where's trickson? How come he hasn't shit in this thread yet? Sometimes I like his trolling of the amd fanboys... hehehe.... come on, what's a tech site without trolling?

I think we told him America sucked and he took offence. At least that's what happened on GN. :p

I think he was on the verge of getting the perma ban hammer with the Attitude he had. Course some people need to be careful not to start anything around here either or they next lol

So when did you become Dent1?
Honestly, I haven't seen much of Trickson at all lately.

I don't particularly care about LN2 overclocks, give me 8ghz 24/7 and then we'll be talking. :p

FourstaffI still remember the P4 days where people just gunned for maximum overclocks above everything else. Looks like the tables have changed, with Intel going for maximum work per cycle while AMD pushes for high clocks.
Not really even close to the same thing. AMD has added very little to the pipeline compared to what Intel did with the P4. AMD has been trying to relieve individual bottlenecks in the design, whereas intel went from 10 stage to 30 stages just for the sake of speed

Mad props for the 9+ghz clocks though, looks like AMD's design certainly can have some potential if AMD can get the design tuned to perform adequately.

no one have any ideas on the batch of chip used ie is it still the same or a new stepping, though to be fair it seems hes just pushing the voltage envelope, also the last (and official) amd OC record was with 1 core , not one whole module(2 cores) and they had helium on hand to pass 8:cool:

I too would love an 8ghz 8 cores on Oc at home but i do also live in the real world,,,,,, , its a demo, like a drag car, totally useless as a car to 99.9999% of the world but 1-man it IS life

and four foot snake ,leave the P4 on the history floor where it belongs , it was BS and any refs between BD and P4's Are fanboy Bs they are not in any way compareable in design (sept x86 etc:p blah blah tho)

What makes me pissed off - even though slightly - is the absence of any Piledriver (& therefore Socket FM2) info; plus the fact it's (FX-8150) able to OC with 6 out of 8 cores disabled - nah, gimme 5 - 6GHz OC with all 8 cores working; f*** it, i sound like 70+ ranting. jk

I wanted this CPU with the 990FX core-logic, now i'd rather wait for 1090FX & Piledriver; Q1 2013 or something like that - that's release date of Piledriver, right? Can wait.

P.S. What really caught my attention was vCore - 1.8xxv for 8GHz+? Wonder what was the smell of it. :toast:

IF it smelled, then probably like Magic Smoke.

It wouldn't because it would be frozen, considering LN2 evaporates at something like -190 degrees Celsius. :)

Neat fact about LN2, you can stick your finger for a second in LN2 because as the LN2 begins to evaporate, the gas created from the liquid expanding creates a barrier between your finger and the liquid LN2, so you don't get burned instantly. Learned and did it when I was taking Physics in college during a superconductor lab.

it doesnt take long for the temp in your finger to drop enough for the ln2 to stop evap and start freezing it off mate, dont do it for long :thumb:

what is with all the bs tude on the internet of late?

QQ its only 2 cores, QQ i would be more impressed with 8 cores@5ghz.

GTFO

this is the fastest cpu speeds EVER

you want to see 8 cores@5ghz?

you do it and stop moaning about those who are pushing the envolope.

Carmageddon II style: that's the last time it farted in your PC*. Seriously though, this Dozer is one hell of OC'er: as long as you have LN2! Also, if that's how they prepare Piledriver** release - i love it.

*Original reads "That's the last time he shitted in the woods" when you break ice figure of a bear.

**I tell you somebody loves the Carmageddon series in AMD. Got to! I can certainly tell these are one of my fav game series.
