Unreal Engine 4 PC Exclusive: Fortnite

Epic Games' Fortnite will be the company's first game to take advantage of Unreal Engine 4. Debuted at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, the cartoony action title is being described as "a co-op sandbox survival game," with building at the core of the game. "Everything you find allows you to build and improve your structure," producer Tanya Jessen told an audience at a Comic-Con panel. Given that no current console can run Unreal Engine 4, the game will be exclusive to PC. According to The Verge, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski told the audience: "This is a PC designed game, shipping exclusively on the PC."

Fortnite will be available in 2013.

Looks interesting. Especially since it's a PC exclussive. How will this game play? From what i've seen it's sort of like FPS tower defense where you build your fortress and then defend it from the undead. Sort of like Killing Floor with building of your own shelter. Any idea if it plays like this?

PC gaming has never been dead, the only dead things are the analysists heads.

Nice, so they built combined Left for Dead and Team Fortress into one game and releasing it with Unreal4 eyecandy. Could be pretty fun.

We needs a Samaritan or maybe a rebuild Deus Ex 1 to take advantage of that engine. Common, bring the heavy stuff on the table!!

Not me. It could've been nice, but it's not. Sometimes it's good when it has a good story to go with it (Fallout but not Fallout 3) but often it's nothing but pretty graphics and badly made MMOing but alone (Skyrim). When I was like 12 and GTA came out it was very fun but now I really REALLY don't see why people like the concept so much, and why so many games have to be sandboxes. Just staggering about is only fun until you realize you still exist within severe limits but they like you to think that there are no limits (every sandbox game ever). Give me a well defined confined space instead damnit. And while you're at it, learn how to write!

I'd totally pay full price again for a total remakes of old games like Deus Ex 1, System Shock 2, Thief series etc in brand new engines. Imagine original Deus Ex 1, redesigned and refreshed in Unreal Engine 4. Orgasmolicious.

I'm a little disappointed to be honest. Epic has turned it's back on PC users for quite some time.

Here they have a brand new shiny engine AND they are gonna give us lowly PC users an "Exclusive" to showcase it. Then we get a cartoony Zombie game. Not really big on the "Wow Factor" Not really the UE4 release to show it's power.

So this is the best the UT4 engine can do? Not impressed, quite frankly. If this is how most next generation console ports will look and move like, then we're in for another long shot of crappy pc games.

Now graphics and mechanics aint everything in a game, but those two factors very much shape a game.

I'd rather see more PC games using Dice's FrostBite 2 or later FrostBite 3 engines.

Only EA titles use Frostbite.

I really don't get all the hate in this thread. Epic games is creating a new IP and it is exclusive to PC. I don't frackin' care what the graphics look like.

My guess is they went with something cartoonish either because the devs got sick of making serious shit all the time or there is something they are trying to showcase (like physics) that are best animated in cartoon charaters than realistic ones. Either way, I don't care. Engines don't make or break games.

Why another Unreal Tournament? Unreal Tournament III barely sold 1 million copies globally across all platforms and why buy it when it is practically a clone of Unreal Tournament 2004? If Epic wants to make money directly off its engine, it needs new IP.

I use to play TF Classic all the time, and couldn't wait for TF 2.. But I don't like the new TF.. One thing I can say is that Kids will love it! but I'll pass.. Just because they never make PC exclusives.. Doesn't mean I'll take anything they just throw at us.. I'll get it for my nephew, because he loves the new TF, but I just can't see myself playing this at all....

IMO it all depends on the in game graphics and the co-op gameplay. I get what you are saying about TF but this game COULD be something great. We will have to see. Remember this is by Epic as Ford pointed out. Not some BS developer.

True, I'll give it a go when it comes out, but as is just by graphics it's a no for me. Maybe it'll have cool weather effects and great sound.. :toast:
