Unreal Engine 4 PC Exclusive: Fortnite

Epic Games' Fortnite will be the company's first game to take advantage of Unreal Engine 4. Debuted at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, the cartoony action title is being described as "a co-op sandbox survival game," with building at the core of the game. "Everything you find allows you to build and improve your structure," producer Tanya Jessen told an audience at a Comic-Con panel. Given that no current console can run Unreal Engine 4, the game will be exclusive to PC. According to The Verge, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski told the audience: "This is a PC designed game, shipping exclusively on the PC."

Fortnite will be available in 2013.

INSTG8RI'm a little disappointed to be honest. Epic has turned it's back on PC users for quite some time.

Here they have a brand new shiny engine AND they are gonna give us lowly PC users an "Exclusive" to showcase it. Then we get a cartoony Zombie game. Not really big on the "Wow Factor" Not really the UE4 release to show it's power.
That about sums it up.. They give us a cartoon to show us "unreal" power? Have they not seen games lately? That hardly looks groundbreaking..
LDNLThis sandbox coop zombie survival sounds abit like a certain mod that has gained abit of fame over these past few months. Why do I get the feeling this is milking that idea?
Not sure how a game that's been in development for enough time to come up with that concept, could be copying any recent mod..
If it's the mod your referring to, imo it's hardly worth comparing to anything, in it's current state. As I said before, Dayz is still just a shell of a game, that runs badly, has a lot of issues and is not even close to finished.. It's Alpha..

But there have been zombie games for as long as there have been zombies almost..
No ones copying anyone as far as I can tell. Just going with the flow like usual and trying to make a buck.
TMC's "The walking dead" if anything, has lead to the huge surge in zombie fans and games imo.

I don't have it my heart to ever forgive Epic for UT3, but I could certainly move on with a fun, quality game that is for PC.

I was a zombie fan before zombies were cool. George A. Romero and Tom Savini were G-D's in the genre. Now its just a bunch of hipster half ass shows and movies with lame plots and no REAL gore. Where are the "CHOKE ON IT" scenes?!

I was actually incredibly excited about this idea when it was first announced. To be perfectly frank, I couldn't care less about Epic or Unreal 4 technology or CliffyB, I want me a good survival game where you get to build your defenses and survive. Minecraft started good on that theme but quite frankly there isn't enough danger during the night, your enemies mostly mill about and ignore you. I want a build-your-own-fort game where the enemies are swarming toward you. I love co-op games I can enjoy with my wife, and this is looking like it should fit the bill.
FrickNot me. It could've been nice, but it's not. Sometimes it's good when it has a good story to go with it (Fallout but not Fallout 3) but often it's nothing but pretty graphics and badly made MMOing but alone (Skyrim). When I was like 12 and GTA came out it was very fun but now I really REALLY don't see why people like the concept so much, and why so many games have to be sandboxes. Just staggering about is only fun until you realize you still exist within severe limits but they like you to think that there are no limits (every sandbox game ever). Give me a well defined confined space instead damnit. And while you're at it, learn how to write!
First, yes F3 was crap, but New Vegas was amazing. Second, you can count the number of good non-sandbox games in the last decade with a truly excellent story on two hands, and almost none of them have been released recently. Since most new games come with crap stories anyway, which would you prefer? A crap game that shoehorns you into its crap storyline full of crap, or a semi-crap storyline that lets you roam mostly free and do something that is more fun and freeing, letting you write your own stories? For me personally, I'd rather have Skyrim than about 95% of games released in the past three years. It's not quite Morrowind, but it's better than Oblivion. It only rarely breaks my immersion and it's a fun world to get lost in, which is exactly what I like: getting lost in games and finding my way about.
MindweaverI use to play TF Classic all the time, and couldn't wait for TF 2.. But I don't like the new TF.. One thing I can say is that Kids will love it! but I'll pass.. Just because they never make PC exclusives.. Doesn't mean I'll take anything they just throw at us.. I'll get it for my nephew, because he loves the new TF, but I just can't see myself playing this at all....
I felt the EXACT same way when TF2 was first announced, but I wanted Portal and Ep1 so I bought the Orange Box. Since I had TF2 anyway, I gave it a try. Not a single game released before or since has taken as much of my time as TF2 has. In time I even came to prefer the graphics because it gives it a nice 50's old-timey TV feel. I honestly can't imagine playing TF2 with modern graphics, it would get tiresome and brutal before long instead of fun and amusing.

RejZoRI'd totally pay full price again for a total remakes of old games like Deus Ex 1, System Shock 2, Thief series etc in brand new engines. Imagine original Deus Ex 1, redesigned and refreshed in Unreal Engine 4. Orgasmolicious.
If I would play Deus Ex 1 again with state of the art graphics I can die in peace!

that or make it one solid game between the 3 and jumps right into the next story but then your able to play all biomod characters in the series and see their storylines and make choices

FordGT90ConceptSounds like fun. :D And yay for PC exclusive! :D
Lame way to get exclusive. Bah to more cartoonish 1/2 finished games any chance this is done so they have time for a console version when the engine works on them.

That's what will have to be looked for in this kind of game, aside from really smooth and nuanced cartoonish graphics. As usual, everyone is looking for flamboyant, violent, and realistic graphics. Epic makes money on licensing their graphics engines to other companies. What matters is showing off the nuances of an engine, that distinguishes it from others. I have the feeling Epic doesn't really care too much about how well their game releases do, to a certain point. They're just advertisements for the engines.

It's PC exclusive because UE4 will only work on a PC for now.
When it works on console platforms it will no longer be PC exclusive because you know they will release it on those platforms also.
It's all just marketing at this point.

When all is said and done, we will judge the game on its merits, not on the engine it runs on.
At least I will.
