New Apple Mac Pro Available Starting Tomorrow
Apple today announced the all-new Mac Pro will be available to order starting Thursday, December 19. Redesigned from the inside out, the all-new Mac Pro features the latest Intel Xeon processors, dual workstation-class GPUs, PCIe-based flash storage and ultra-fast ECC memory.
Designed around an innovative unified thermal core, the all-new Mac Pro packs unprecedented performance into an aluminum enclosure that is just 9.9-inches tall and one-eighth the volume of the previous generation. Mac Pro features 4-core, 6-core, 8-core or 12-core Intel Xeon processors running at Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz and two workstation-class AMD FirePro GPUs that deliver up to eight times the graphics performance of the previous generation Mac Pro.PCIe-based flash storage delivers sequential read speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional desktop hard drives, and ECC DDR3 gives the new Mac Pro up to 60 GBps of memory bandwidth for seamlessly editing full-resolution 4K video while simultaneously rendering effects in the background. With an incredible six Thunderbolt 2 ports, each with up to 20 Gbps of bandwidth per device, the new Mac Pro completely redefines desktop expandability with support for up to 36 high-performance peripherals, including the latest 4K displays.
Pricing & Availability
The Mac Pro is available with a 3.7 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz, dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs with 2 GB of VRAM each, 12 GB of memory, and 256 GB of PCIe-based flash storage starting at $2,999 (US); and with a 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz, dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3 GB of VRAM each, 16 GB of memory, and 256 GB of PCIe-based flash storage starting at $3,999 (US). Configure-to-order options include faster 8-core or 12-core Intel Xeon E5 processors, AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6 GB of VRAM, up to 64 GB of memory, and up to 1 TB of PCIe-based flash storage. Additional technical specifications, configure-to-order options and accessories are available online at www.apple.com/mac-pro.

It's best use yet!
I might seem farfetched but with things getting smaller and CPU looking to HAS and graphics is there anyone looking a changing the standards?
Say what you want folks but this thing looks great and it's something completly different.
All it needs is a fresh Linux installation
I love the looks on that thing, but like others have said, it might not be perfect for a workstation. On the other hand, that makes it sort of strange, and that is not a bad thing imo.
If my calculations are correct, this comes in at about 5.5L volume, which makes it 1.5L smaller than the Lian-Li PC-Q12 - a nice case for a professional desktop but one with no expansion capability.
The next smallest case with a single expansion slot is the Silverstone SG05/06, which is 11L.
In order to build a PC with the same capability as this Mac Pro, you would need a uATX form factor, so the Silverstone SG09/10 would be the smallest at 23L.
So the best you can do with standard components is something that is 4 times the volume of this new Mac Pro. Pretty amazing, assuming it performs.
If you put DELL or HP on that thing people would be blowing their pulpy loads all over this thread.
enough said.....
I love to see a total rethink of the design of a PC/Mac. But something "new" rather than looking like "something else" would have been a better design.
You want to bash PC folk like that you can. But we aren't the dumb ones paying thousands for the same hunk of hardware with the only difference being OSX. Granted I used to support Mac users but when you build your first PC, you quickly understand how much Apple rips people off. You could tout quality hardware but the reports of Macs failing has increased exponentially these last few years. Heck I got relatives that have been through about 3 Mac Pros because they keep breaking down.
Once you see the truth that Apple isn't perfection, they are as greedy as any corporation, and Jobs wasn't some form of heavenly being...you start seeing Apple for what it is and you either make a hackintosh, or you go PC.
my comment is on the fact that if it has the name Apple in front then people will automatically hate it. Just go back through any news article with Apple and you will see what I mean. Even when it comes to them revolutionizing EVERY single aspect of the PC experience people will still bash them.
The Mac platform is far too closed, they revolutionised linearity and no freedom of choice.
PC's are also far too big and noisy IMO.
Now I'll just go outside and bang a stick on a rock until true enlightenment.
