The blame for this fully rests on AMD, not VTX3D. VTX3D has been releasing X-series cards since 2010, well before AMD released its "X" branding. Remember the HD 6970 X-edition?

VTX3D has obviously invested quite a bit of money into marketing their X-edition brand over three years and would have to abandon all their brand equity to make their name less confusing; I can't blame them for not doing it.
