Corsair Launches the HX1200i Power Supply

Corsair, the most awarded PC power supply brand in the world1, today announced a new addition to award winning line of HXi Series of PC power supplies-the HX1200i.

Retaining the ultra-efficient design that has made Corsair's HXi series of award winning PSUs with technology reviewers around the world, the HX1200i ups the ante by offering up to a massive 1200W of 80 Plus Platinum efficient power. Able to drive even demanding three and four card Nvidia SLI or AMD CrossFire multi-GPU systems, the HX1200i delivers 92% or better energy efficiency, ensuring that the minimum of electricity is wasted and that your system runs as coolly and quietly as possible.
Specially selected low-noise components and a Zero-RPM Fan Mode that only spins the PSU fan when it's needed help keep noise to a minimum. With free Corsair Link software enthusiasts can customize the speed of the 140mm fluid-dynamic-bearing fan to suite their systems individual needs. Corsair Link also offers real-time monitoring of the PSU's voltages, efficiency and temperatures, so users can see for themselves just how well their PSU is performing. The HX1200i is also designed to make your system look as good as it runs, with fully modular flattened ribbon cables for superior cable routing and the minimum of clutter.

Specifications
  • 1200 watts
  • 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency
  • Fully modular DC cable set
  • 100% Japanese electrolytic capacitors rated at 105°c
  • Zero-RPM fan mode for virtually silent operation at low and medium loads
  • Corsair Link support for monitoring efficiency, voltages, power output, temperature, and fan speed plus user customizable setting of rail modes and fan speed.
  • Fluid dynamic bearing fan

Corsair Link is buggy. :) Don't use it for PSU.

All left is the AX series update for Titanium across the range...

It works fine for me. At least compared to what some reviewers found when Corsair Link first launched, currently it's good enough.

It's buggy if used with NZXT CAM and vice-versa. I don't believe they found a workaround or if they are interested in finding one.

The AX1200i (discontinued) is a higher end PSU and scores higher in a review, but I wonder if anyone would ever notice the difference in practice?

Since when is the AX1200i discontinued?

I think I may have seen it on the Corsair forum. There's an AX1500i out now, which replaces it.

I saw that some time ago now though that I saw this and just checking it now I'm still seeing it listed with online retailers so maybe it hasn't been discontinued or there's a lot of stock left over.

I only know about this, because I bought one back in May that worked fine for 3 days, but then started making that damned clicking noise in "silent" mode with the fan stopped. It's ended up being a design fault and there's a saga behind it for me to get a refund. It's still ongoing, so I'll start a thread about it when it's all resolved.

Where are these reviews you speak of?

I think it will be discontinued soon, but isn't just yet. AXi I think will get a full refresh for Titanium efficiency across the board, I mean, HXi is doing the Platinum level up to 1200W already, and considering it's cheaper than an AXi for very close performance, why would anyone buy an AXi over an HXi?

AXi is higher end than HXi in Corsair's range (also HXi came out after AXi) so will gave that bit better efficiency and likely regulation. Just google for reviews if you want to compare. TPU reviewed the AX1200i a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. If I remember correctly, there's more digital circuitry in AXi PSUs than HXi PSUs.

You could well be right about the AXi refresh.

Well, from a consumer perspective, not knowing anything about the innards, would you buy the AXi now that the HXi matches it spec wise?

They're not quite the same with AXi being higher end, so I would compare reviews and make an informed decision then.
