AMD GPUOpen Fuels Seismic Supercomputing Efforts for Geoscience Leader CGG

AMD today announced that CGG, a pioneering global geophysical services and equipment company, has deployed AMD FirePro S9150 server GPUs to accelerate its geoscience oil and gas research efforts, harnessing more than 1 PetaFLOPS of GPU processing power. Employing AMD's HPC GPU Computing software tools available on GPUOpen.com, CGG rapidly converted its in-house NVIDIA CUDA code to OpenCL for seismic data processing running on an AMD FirePro S9150 GPU production cluster, enabling fast, cost-effective GPU-powered research.

The Radeon Open Compute platform, as a key part of GPUOpen, is comprised of several components based on open standards and extended features that reveal important hardware capabilities. GPUOpen supports porting to OpenCL with support by AMD and the open source community, and exposes innovative open source solutions including the Heterogeneous Compute Compiler and HIP API.

Who is going to port PhysX and all the closed source black box bull crap for us?
Who cares about PhysX? It's just a bunch of confetti anyhow. Serious physics effects will be programmed using open tools that'll run as fast as they can on whichever GPU it detects. No more nVidia bullshit.

That's a horrible justification for a gamer. I mean yeah, you can, you can play on Intel integrated graphics on low too, but that's not a good arguement.

Not saying I like PhysX personally (I hate proprietary tech in general) just pointing out the holes in that argument.

hahaha cuda conversion.. async compute and direct compute has amd and microsoft written allover it. cuda is a proprietary nonsense that should not be. your living in some dream world where nv actually does something not to roll in cash and hurt the windows ecosystem.

It's not Nvidia which is doing the conversion. It's AMD. They want a bite at HPC market which Nvidia hogs thanks to CUDA. That's the whole aim of Boltzmann Initiative from AMD.
