Ubisoft Gets Serious On Far Cry 5 Season Pass: Zombies, Forests and Mars
Ubisoft has seemingly taken the "no holds barred" approach to the Season Pass and DLC packages for its upcoming Far Cry 5 game. Building upon one of its most well recognized franchises, Ubisoft has apparently (if allegedly, for now; we'll see when the actual content drops) for a CD Projekt Red-esque approach to DLC. Whereas before DLC options were relatively mundane and wouldn't set anyone's world on fire (except for Far Cry 3's expansion Blood Dragon), the company today announced that the Season Pass for Far Cry 5 will include three distinct environments for players to do battle in, alongside access to a digital copy of Far Cry 3 Classic Edition (the one with Vaas and the definition of insanity, yes). The three environments are approached in three distinct DLC packs: Dead Living Zombies, Hours of Darkness, and Lost on Mars. Dead Living Zombies is pretty self explanatory as far as settings go, with a sprinkle of B-movie scenarios for good measure; in Hours of Darkness, players will travel back in time to Vietnam to take on the Viet Cong. Lost on Mars, on the other hand, will have players battling what look like arachnids on the surface of the red planet. Blood Dragon was in fact a worthy expansion of the base Far Cry 3 game, and it seems Ubisoft is trying to leverage that same feeling with these three distinct adventures. The length of these, however, remains to be seen, and this editor is skeptical; these are completely different scenarios and environments that will have Ubisoft's team spending more time on level design and environment art than a mere adventure DLC that took place on the same Montana environment as the base Far Cry 5. All of these scenarios, in fact, would play out well in a standalone Far Cry game (the sci-fi setting, for one, would be like a glove fitting a hand on this franchise). It remains to be seen how deep these DLC adventures will be, and maybe Ubisoft really is taking this as an opportunity to do some market research on where the next Far Cry will go. Even if these DLCs aren't anything to write home about, however, at least players will be able to take on Vaas again - that's worth something, right?
There's no actual details on pricing yet, though some etailers are listing the Season Pass for €40.

Also how many of these games need to shoot up Zombies? I kinda confused how Zombies plays into FarCry in general other than just a "Hey it has zombies theme pay us more money"
I just remember the days when they would release a game and you got the game, no a portion or a game or a part of a game. Yes I know that they used to have expansion packs and add ons but any more it is a whole new level or wanting my wallet to stay open
Denuvo+VMProtect will most likely be on this. Definitely won't be paying for a DRM filled SINGLE PLAYER game. Maybe it will come one day in a $7 humble bundle.
Pfff, what a waste.
Guess some people STILL haven't learned
zombies are a gameplay mechanic, if done right they could/should be in every game as a dlc/expansion after main game development has completed
nobody can say how complete or incomplete something is until after all content has released, companies also have the right to do better next time, not be treated as if all dlc is the same horse armor or as if the ending is removed from base game
it is up to you the customer to decide on how complete a base game is or if you've been cheated, up to you to also wait for complete packs or sales later on
You can take that as insult or as food for thought, I really don't care. But hyped up circle-jerks about 'I pre-ordered'... there's the Ubisoft forum for that.
also the "hyped up circle jerk" comment, you do realize this is a news post about seasons pass and game content dont you? ppl should be ale to say "i pre ordered this" w/o some dude with pent up anger about the pre orders/loot boxes in games talking down to them and insulting them.... Either grow up or GTFO, i really dont care which you do...
I'll leave you with that thought. I know I'm right about what I'm saying because time has already proven this on several other occasions, lootboxes being a very good example. Everyone should do whatever the hell they want, but if you post it publicly, once again, expect people to have an opinion about it. That's what a forum is for. If you just want to listen to yourself, start a blog somewhere.
Furthermore, if nobody cared about what I had to say, I'll refer you to my post history and the ratio of thanks versus posts. Seems I do tend to make valid points here and there. Not always, of course, but hey, nobody's perfect.
