AMD Releases Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.2.1 WHQL

AMD today has released the WHQL version of its Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.2.1 Beta drivers, which the company had introduced just five days ago. There's no apparent difference between this driver version and the previously released one, other than the WHQL certification - this might mean some additional stability in the new driver release compared to its Beta version, though mileage may vary.

Just as a friendly reminder, the Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.2.1 drivers add support for Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, while fixing a number of bugs with FreeSync and the Vulkan API, among others. As always, you can download these drivers right here on TechPowerUp!, just by following the link below.

Maybe WHQL certification has something to do with the fact Windows 10 was overriding the driver back to 17.3 WHQL driver by itself repeatedly when I've installed it on my A9-9420 APU. Then I complained on AMD's subreddid about it. Will check it out to see if WHQL changes anything, but I'm suspecting this is it. I see no other reason why they'd release same thing, just with WHQL otherwise...

Btw, WHQL-ed BETA driver? Am I missing something? I thought it was a final version already. I don't remember any mention of BETA... Hm.

You can check a box in DDU that forbids WU from touching the driver.

The reason why they pushed this driver out is for FreeSync fixes. More are coming. Around the end of the year last year, FreeSync broke bad.

The latest DDU for FCU doesn't work for WU from touching the driver.

A tool from M$ works though,

Read the page and install the stand alone package, run it after DDU and it'll bring up AMD drivers and such so it shows DDU isn't blocking WU.. The latest DDU says something about its not blocking in the release notes.

Here, it's a great tool to have.

WHQL certificate seems to be the culprit in my case. 18.2.1 WHQL is not getting reverted back to 17.3.1 driver anymore. That's a bit stupid. So, now I know I can only work with WHQL drivers, otherwise they'll get reverted to some old version.
