Dell and HP Not Interested in Jumping on the NVIDIA GPP Bandwagon

Our colleague Kyle Bennett from HardOCP has spoken with his trusted industry sources and found out that big names like Dell and HP haven't penned the deal with NVIDIA to join the GeForce Partner Program (GPP). HP recently introduced their updated Pavilion Gaming lineup with both AMD and NVIDIA graphics card options, which goes to show that the computer giant hasn't aligned its gaming brand exclusively with NVIDIA. On the other hand, their Omen Gaming boxes weren't available with AMD graphics cards, which Kyle has noted could be a product of a supply issue. In other news, NVIDIA hasn't been able to convince Lenovo, one of the big three OEMs, to join their cause either. Lenovo Legion gaming products were still listed on their website with graphics cards from the red team. HardOCP has reached out to NVIDIA once again to inquire about which brands have comitted to GPP, but they were met with silence.

While brands like ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI are siding with NVIDIA, Dell and HP are the real big players in the game. No other manufacturer comes close to purchasing and moving the amount of mid-end and low-end graphics cards from NVIDIA like those two do. It doesn't really come as a surprise why NVIDIA wants them to jump onboard so desperately. Kyle's behind-the-scene conversations with this sources suggest that neither Dell or HP will NVIDIA twist their arms as they consider GPP to be unethical and illegal.

Good news, I suppose. Though, I never expected OEMs to be such heavy weight players for the desktop GPUs market

I imagine some people would go supernovae on OEMs if they couldn't get Nvidia cards with their shiny new desktop systems.

Though at least Vega would finally be in a gamer's possession, without it being ridiculously overpriced. Don't know if the rest of the system would be overpriced or not, however.

They will join sooner or later..
its just a matter of time.
with AMD just releasing an 'X' in their name for a yearly upgrade of their cards..

i guess every one will be pissed off by the lack of innovation & annoying rebadging & rebranding..from the RED team.

Dell and HP can't be pushed around like that , if you are not ready to dump a couple of billions down their pockets they are not even going to look your way for stuff like this.

Both are OEMs on Quadro Partner Program. I don't really see gaming segment is main market to either at all. So for whom they buy their graphics chips and cards from? I.e. where all the Alienware desktop Graphics cards come from*, are they directly from Nvidia/amd or third party vendors. HPs gaming laptops were clevo's in the past, but I think Omens are in house build, or are they?

Edit: *quick googling of alienware aurora R5 shows gtx 1070 FE so probably direct from nvidia.

It varies. Some Alienware PCs have FE and some look to have OEM PNY blower style variant. Maybe due to availability at the time.

I'm pretty sure they will never join. Why? Intel Kaby Lake G (you know, that MCM with AMD Polaris 22 GPU) and possible future Intel+AMD combos. They just cannot afford to anger Intel ...

Haven't seen Kaby Lake G taking many design wins(I don't remember seeing anything else but dell xps 15 2-in-1, which actually isn't gaming laptop). But those mobile six core coffee lakes are now in every frigging gaming laptops. My point is Intel is processor maker first and foremost. As long as processor is from Intel rather than amd, they are more than happy.

Good point, and it's a good chance it would prevent HP or Dell from selling those intel products in certain circumstances. The strings attached to doing business with NVida ... it's dealing with the devil. This quote... "as they consider GPP to be unethical and illegal. "

I've hated NVida ever since they sued companies for bypassing SLI on motherboards. Some great products, but I'll avoid whenever possible.

Fakenews, Mr Fatalfury. X is only for the OEM cards. Nice try though.

For me it started when ngridia bought and destroyed an icon called 3dfx.
They kinda closed the site and stopped driver support immediately, behavior which I still remember and I resent them for.

They got some nice tech from 3dfx, among which the SLI and many other crucial patents.

Indeed, but I did laugh at the people thinking it might even be a node shrink.

They had beta drivers for vista for NF2/3 users then pulled the drivers last minute. Last time I supported them.

Well HP and Dell are the oems, which those "new" X cards are meant. But yeah there haven't been anything really new on nvidia side either(if one does not want to count MaxQ), so they still are as good and competitive as they have been from the RX 400 series...

nVidia already killed the then-suffering (from consoles) PC Gaming industry. now they are trying to kill the whole suffering (from mobile devices) PC industry. Good to see HP and Dell refusing to take part in this crime.

Just call it something else. I'd name it the "Dell GPP prohibits us from calling this Alienware 17". Longish, but laptops have confusing naming scheme already. This would be Dell GPPPUFCTA17.

Hey DELL and HP, I wont be buying your products either. And NO its not because I dislike AMD, i have a card in use right now. And have had many rigs built around them, I just will not support companies essentially banning NVIDA. Besides, I want the next gen Nvidia in my next rig.

This doesn't ban nvidia in their OEM products. You need to read up on GPP again before making sensationalist claims.

I forgot about that. I had an original Voodoo, then a Voodoo2.

Nvidioncity in prime!!
they are not banning nVidia. they are just trying not to let nvidia ban amd and dominate the market and increase the prices.

Dell and HP cannot join the GPP for obvious reason, they build computers to suit the consumers specification. They dont manufacture video cards.

IF the sole source for this news is Kyle Bennett, I call clickbait with this article.

After Seeing AMD's release of RX 500X series.. i stopped caring about AMD after that
this time not even 0.1% difference...not even like rx 470 vs rx 570..
Just adding an 'X' in the name for a yearly release???? thats all you got..??

Perhaps we just need more Nvidia brands because everybody deep inside knows they are the one innovating & are 2 years ahead of AMD in PC Gaming.
They(Nvidia) got the R & D, They got the Innovation, They got the performance, They got the Effeciency, They got the Stock,

Because AMD is just casual coz they got PS4,Xbox & MAC Pros..(AMD are monoply in their own way..)
I guess Nvidia is right after all...Need all OEM to jump ship..or get stuck behind with old tech & no stock..
