Alphacool Presents the Alphacool Powerbutton

Alphacool today introduced the world to the greatest invention it sometimes knew it needed: the Alphacool Powerbutton. The Alphacool Powerbutton is the pinnacle of design ingenuity for users that find reaching their system's power button either a Herculean task, or one that's beneath them (sometimes literally).

The idea behind the Powerbutton is to extend the typical computer's Power button to anywhere on the users' desk, allowing for comfortable turn on/turn off cycles (or one of the best office pranks ever, of course). The Powerbutton is available in black or chrome options. The button + wiring package goes for €29.79, while the button by itself is available for €16.79.

Why is it so small, and where is the RGB?

Oh yeah! And why doesn't it have a badass-sounding German name?

Whomever buys this has to be either very lazy or uneducated....you can buy a million different power buttons, ones that even look like this, from any industrial supplier (probably for half the price) like Grainger, mcmastercarr, etc. It's almost as if PC people don't know something exists until a PC company puts their label on it. All you have to do is search for "remote, illuminated momentary pushbutton operators" then you can customize it anyway you want by choosing from a million different "enclosures"

A DIY kit should cost a fraction of this and be much better. As said in this thread, a very lazy solution.

For those prices I'd rather go the wireless route: Silverstone SST-ES02-USB Remote Switch Kit. When I was making my HTPC out of an antique 3 foot tall AM radio, I didn't want to drill into the cabinet to mount a power button so I used the PCI Express version of that Silverstone kit.

I forgot to add, the wireless kit can both power and reset the PC.

It should be possible to make a wireless button these days.

I was thinking something more like "Rubeknopf" would be appropriate. ;)

So basically this is a button. I must be going insane, is this some sort of a joke or what?

No, it's literally what they say it is. And while we all think it's stupid, it's not if you think of it. It's great for custom builds.

No, it's more than that. It actually conditions the power, to make sure your PC starts in "gaming mode", and not the less desirable "work mode", depending on whether you do a quick press or press, hold, release. It could change your life for a mere $35.

Tell this to Alphacool, because that wire is ridiculous.

Alphacool never listen to advice and always do their own thing, even if it makes no sense - like not leaving holes for BIOS switches on coolers or covering up the fan connectors ...

Will it make me coffee in the morning? Does it double as a doughnut hole? Will it flush my toilet if I forget to? I'm old , sometimes I forget.

If this had just the ability to press it and "Sleep" the computer and keep in sleep state until I press it again that would be a great little device!

I wouldn't say this is a bad idea, but I'm not interested in any such solution. I got bigger problems if my health or physical fitness doesn't enable me to reach down to press a button.

Not so nice when a cat walks on your keyboard when PC is off.
