Monster Hunter World PC Performance Estimates Pop Up; GeForce GTX 1080 Insufficient for 60 FPS WQHD

A performance preview of sorts for Monster Hunter World has surfaced via a post on Resetera, where user FluffyQuack posted his initial performance results with an advance copy of the PC version of the game. Initial impressions don't scale very well; performance isn't monstrous, but it isn't exactly pretty either. The game does look good, granted; however, there are some texture and fur processing quality issues that could be much better implemented.

Performance figures for a system equipped with 16 GB of RAM, an i7-4790k and a GTX 1080 are delivering a minimum of 44 FPS on the highest preset, 60 FPS on High settings, 65 FPS on Medium, and 108 FPS on Low. Of course, a day-one patch could optimize settings further, but there are some visually impressive games that both look and perform better. Still, the game looks good, and should be an interesting experience for the long summer.

jormungandI already preordered the game... why?? Cuz ive been waiting too long for the pc edition and because i do want to play the game.
Another one with more money than brains. What would have changed if you waited for the game to come out, be properly reviewed and then buy it? You were afraid Steam would have run out of stock?

What would have changed ? Maybe you wouldn't whine so much about what other people enjoy doing.
He explained the reason already. I've been burnt on preorders, still gonna do it.

Performance aside, Monster Hunter is a solid game series.. so I can see why people would I want to preorder (I didn't myself, but it was on my wishlist). Unknown how solid it is for PCs yet, since this is the first (non mmo)...

GreiverBladewhy? 1K is HD thus 720P
Besides that everything you wrote is utterly wrong because the number is based on the horizontal pixel count, and not the vertical one.
1920 x 1080 is the most 2K you'll get today in monitors, with 1920 horizontal pixels.
960 x 540 could be considered 1K, simply because the pixel count is exactly quartered, just like 1080p is compered to 2160p, or how 8K UHD has exactly X4 the pixels 4K has.
If you really wanna knock yourself out, invent a resolution called 0.5K, as long as its around 480 x 270

google is hard. Thanks for that title change btw.

Hah.. I always assumed 2k was 1920.. which is why this news pissed me off. If a game couldn't even run at 1080p without probs, something seriously shitty was going on.

I can slightly understand hiccups at 2160p. There are some games that still slow down a bit for me at 2160 on a Vega. Especially Deus Ex Mankind Divided. And I'm all around happier just playing the Witcher 3 at 1080p as well.

To be honest, DXMD didn't look all that great for the requirements it had. At least MHW looks decent.

First..your answer is a direct offense, second i dont care what others do with their money, and 3rd im a gamer thats all, i didn't preorder at Steam, got it $15 dollars cheaper but thats not the matter here. If you didnt read carefully my post, i said that i wanted to play and be of help for those who dont want to preorder the game. But if your problem is with the people who preordered or want to buy the game, i have the answer for you, NOT YOUR BUSINESSES NEITHER YOUR MONEY.

4790K is most likely the bottleneck.

Of course you're free to spend your money any way you want. I was just pointing out, in this particular instance, it has earned you nothing.

Heh, Capcom is notorious about ports for PC. Isn't the first or the last time they half ass one.

Really? You're going to say something like that over the price of a game? You're just being a jerk now on this forum I guess.

M2BThis is why we need new Generation of GPUs, of course these are minimum frames but GTX 1080 is becoming a Mid-Range GPU.
No. Just NO. This game is no Crisys, to uplift the graphics to a new level, is actually a 10 years old engine by the look of it. So poor and crappy optimisation of a game doesn't imply buying a new video card, common.
Berfs14790K is most likely the bottleneck.
You must be joking :laugh::laugh::laugh:

They need to step up their game then.. because Japan needs PC sales now.

Which is why we're starting to see more and more Japanese games lately. At least Square is putting their heart into it.

still feels wrong to use the width rather than the height over the base , but lets take it like that, then.

1440p is not 2K if you take 540p as 1k and using the width ... (although it's 2.5k oohhh now i get why my 2880x1620p is called 3k  ) tho you wrote that "everything is utterly wrong beside" "1k is HD is 720p"

oh well ... "Monster Hunter World PC Performance Estimates Pop Up; GeForce GTX 1080 Insufficient for 60 FPS 2.5K" or even QHD/WQHD

(1K is 1024x540, 2K is 2048x1080 and 4K 4096x2160 in reality ... if you want to be precise )
tho the part about god being murdered by us got me writing my previous post  and i got in a adequately themed fantasy setup it seems (kittens are more important) and nope, didn't use google just what i have always heard and well ... flawed logic... (if i did use google ... welll QHD/WQHD is .... 4 time HD resolution.... eh? not since HD is 1280x720P hehe, by pixel count and not width or height at equivalent surface ... it is actually )

StrayKATWhat? Something is definitely wrong if your game can't do 2k on a1080 at this point. edit: I remember putting this on my wishlist. Screw them. Taking it off.
I feel the same i really wanted to try it out

Well, I've kind of eased up when I misunderstood they meant 2k was 2160p. I first assumed 2k was 1080p. If it's good at 1080p, I'm fine with it.

dj-electricI'm grumpy. Everytime I see WQHD referred to as "2K" a cringe a little.
God is dead, we murdered him.
Wouldn't want you being grumpy, so changed the title accordingly :P

Impatience makes this thread very bad for whoever reads it. Why should we take seriously under considerationthis test from a person somewhere in our globe with a suspicious copy of the game and without proper driver support? Almost surely the results after the official release with proper drivers will be MUCH better.

GasarakiI don't know what "predictions" you're reading but the early leaks i'm reading show the 1170 beating the 1080Ti in performance.
Predictions based on....out of control rumor mill?

unrelated to this thread: the 1170 rumor mill isn't exactly a legit one. Sure there are some solid evidence it's faster than the 1080Ti by at least 30%, but in realistic settings, I expect the gains to be around 20% area since Volta/Turing is based on the successes of Pascal with minor tweaks. Still, 20% is quite a big gain IMO. Back to topic: Do note this is beta phase of the game we're talking here. We won't know until Capcom admitted about how bad the port was & releasing a patch on launch day at the same time. Still, not gonna purchase a copy till then considering it's rather disappointing start. So much for the hype of bringing the game to the PC...
