Monster Hunter World PC Performance Estimates Pop Up; GeForce GTX 1080 Insufficient for 60 FPS WQHD

A performance preview of sorts for Monster Hunter World has surfaced via a post on Resetera, where user FluffyQuack posted his initial performance results with an advance copy of the PC version of the game. Initial impressions don't scale very well; performance isn't monstrous, but it isn't exactly pretty either. The game does look good, granted; however, there are some texture and fur processing quality issues that could be much better implemented.

Performance figures for a system equipped with 16 GB of RAM, an i7-4790k and a GTX 1080 are delivering a minimum of 44 FPS on the highest preset, 60 FPS on High settings, 65 FPS on Medium, and 108 FPS on Low. Of course, a day-one patch could optimize settings further, but there are some visually impressive games that both look and perform better. Still, the game looks good, and should be an interesting experience for the long summer.

Tsukiyomi91unrelated to this thread: the 1170 rumor mill isn't exactly a legit one. Sure there are some solid evidence it's faster than the 1080Ti by at least 30%, but in realistic settings, I expect the gains to be around 20% area since Volta/Turing is based on the successes of Pascal with minor tweaks. Still, 20% is quite a big gain IMO. Back to topic: Do note this is beta phase of the game we're talking here. We won't know until Capcom admitted about how bad the port was & releasing a patch on launch day at the same time. Still, not gonna purchase a copy till then considering it's rather disappointing start. So much for the hype of bringing the game to the PC...
I only wish every new generation would come with insignificant tweaks like tensor cores or RTX :D
Ok, tensor cores don't do much at home, but they are part of Volta.

siluro818It's a specific effect that is the culprit for most of that performance loss (Volume Rendering Quality), and one that hardly makes a difference at that. With all other settings maxed out the 1080 runs the game with 70 FPS at 1440p with VRC off, which falls to 50 FPS with VRC maxed.

So keep those preorders....
Why would you keep or even place a pre-order on a digital product? Its not like your box will be gone from the shelves.

Never understood this. Paying something before being able to see if it works proper. And it is detrimental to game quality for us all. So no, don't keep that pre order. Thanks alot.

HAHAHHAAHAA 30% over a 1080ti on the 1170? If you believe that, you've lost the plot. Man people are ridiculously stupid these days. Rumor mill? You mean clickbait heaven.

I preordered Shenmue... but that's because I already know it. I just want a PC version now.

Won't go any faster because you placed a pre order though. Restrain yourself man. Seriously. Its not like you're promoting the chance of them delivering a better version now either, quite the opposite...

True, but it's more out of loyalty and support for the developer.. and the fact I'm going to buy it anyways, no matter what. I didn't join his kickstarter, but I can do this much. edit: The kickstarter for Shenmue 3, that is.

If you do this for an indie developer, you're doing the right thing.
If you're doing it for established publishers, you're rewarding the practice of measuring a game's success based solely on preorders and first couple of week sales. Followed by a speedy disbanding of the dev team )or moving them to the next prject if they're lucky) and fixing as little as they can get away with.
Just sayin'.

I've never done it before in my life. I'm just a Shenmue fan (and don't have a Dreamcast now). You have no idea how long I've been waiting for a PC port. I see no downsides to just preordering something I'm going to buy anyway or apologizing for it.

It's kind of iffy how independent they are. He established "Ys Net", his own studio, but Sega is still publisher. Sony also agreed to help back Shenmue 3 if he got a certain limit on his initial kickstarter... which he did.. almost instantly.

edit: I'm speaking of Yu Suzuki btw.. he's a legend, as far as Sega goes. He made everything from Outrun and Afterburner to Virtua Fighter and Shenmue. And never had the iffy reputation of Tim Schafer or Chris Roberts.. who I also love.. but are also flakes.

Yeah, I know how you feel. After playing the first Witcher, I pre-ordered the next two. And that is also the only title I have ever pre-ordered.

I actually waited quite awhile to play any of those.. I wish I didn't. edit: Speaking of, Cyberpunk is the only new game I'm hyped about. But I'm not sure I'd preorder.

Yeah, it's the story that made the Witcher franchise and there's no guarantee they'll be able to pull that off with a new franchise. I hoping they will.

Well, what makes me cautious is the old Cyberpunk, from what I remember, is a bit more grunt-ish and gun heavy. It didn't explore some of the cerebral stuff some novels of the time did, nor was it like Shadowrun, which is a bit more fantasy mixed with cyberpunk. But it could still be cool.

edit: Should probably add that it need not even remain faithful to any of that. Who knows what it'll be? There's so many good ideas to riff upon in the cyberpunk genre that they might draw from all of it... which would be great! We need a game like that.

gonna update the thread even though i already posted this in the Game section.

Well going for it...i dont have screenshots to show what im gonna talk about now cuz for some reason printscreen didn't work.
so far like 15 min in the game, between cinematics and gameplay, i can say this loud right now. TURN Off the Volume Rendering Quality , i havent touch anything else everything max out
AND THE GAME RUNS SMOOTH AS BUTTER , I can see my gpu usage going to 100% and ill dare to say that i havent seen the cpu cores go over 60%.
One thing i notice was that the drop from 60fps to 40s is almost or like unnoticeable because as i said the game runs so good.
Believe me when i say that i was looking for that stuttering frame drop, or another kind of trouble in the gameplay , NONE for those 15 min.
Game looks clean and beautiful.
sorry i dont have more info for now i just downloaded the game (16.7GB) but im gonna try to make those screenshots later
A friend of mine downloaded the game first and his words were...turn off just the VRQ forget about anything else the game runs smooth AF...
His system ,
7700k
16gb
GTx 1080 evga SC
monitor samsung 34 ips 100hz UW even though it doesnt have supp for ultrawide 3440 x1440 with black bars :nutkick:

edited>>>>>>>already 1hr+ and still smooth and beautiful.
