AMD Releases Radeon Software Adrenalin 19.8.1 Drivers

AMD today released Radeon Software Adrenalin 19.8.1 drivers as the first custom-design Radeon RX 5700-series graphics cards took to the shelves. The drivers add Microsoft PlayReady 3.0 DRM support for the RX 5700 series. The drivers also fix several issues but don't even acknowledge the elevated idle fan-speeds on reference RX 5700-series graphics cards, in what is shaping up to be a bait-and-switch tactic that's unbecoming of a company like AMD. Among the resolved bugs are color corruption noticed upon install of Radeon Software on Windows 10 May 2019 Update (1903) without Windows Update KB4505903 in place.

A black screen noticed on RX 5700 series with automatic memory overclocking enabled in games with full-screen display settings, has also been fixed. The drivers also fix Radeon Chill settings not being in sync with game profiles changed in-game using Radeon Overlay. Radeon AntiLag slightly impacting performance in some games has also been fixed. Uninstalling RX 5700 drivers on Windows 7 machines resulting in a black-screen has also been fixed. ReLive recording not working correctly on Windows 7 with RX 5700 series has also been fixed. Grab the drivers from the link below.

The change-log follows.

Support For
  • Microsoft PlayReady 3.0: Supported on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products.
Fixed Issues
  • Some system configurations may experience color corruption after install of Radeon Software when running Windows 10 May 2019 update. Issue is resolved in the latest Windows Update 18362.267 (KB4505903)
  • Radeon Chill settings may not sync with game profile settings when changed in-game through Radeon Overlay
  • Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products may experience a black screen or flickering when applying auto overclocking memory with games or applications running in fullscreen
  • Radeon AntiLag may slightly impact performance in select games
  • Radeon RX 5700 Series Graphics may experience a black screen during uninstall on Windows 7 system configurations. A work around is to perform uninstall in safe mode.
  • Recording clips with Radeon ReLive may result in blank clips on Radeon RX 5700 Series Graphics with Windows 7 system configurations.

What happened to the writers of news here being professionals, instead of defamating an organization?

"in what is shaping up to be a bait-and-switch tactic that's unbecoming of a company like AMD."

Drivers are only as good as the reports not coming in .

I wish AMD would stop supporting Windows 7 and 8.1, as much as I hate to say this, it's time to move on. I'd rather them focus 100% on Windows 10 drivers. Ryzen 3000 chips already require Win 10 and no longer have backwards compatibility, so yeah its time to move on folks. Linux flavor or Windows 10, and Lisa Su needs to hire a couple more engineers for each, cut the Win 7 people or move them to the Win 10 team.

I am glad to see new drivers before my clean install Thursday though, which is when my 3 fan 5700 XT is expected to arrive.

The higher fan speed was probably intentional and probably won't be changed back as manufacturers supply the reviewers with new BIOSes to adress the problem of now messed up fan curves...

The drivers are so similar between the operating systems.
So it's not an issue.
Also let's say F. Yourself to half of the install base.. Not gonna happen.

Known Issues
  • Stutter may be experienced when Radeon FreeSync is enabled on 240hz refresh displays with Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products.
  • Radeon Performance Metrics may report incorrect VRAM utilization.
  • AMD Radeon VII may experience elevated memory clocks at idle or on desktop.
  • Radeon Overlay may intermittently fail to appear when toggled in game. WHY hasn't this been fixed by now
  • Audio for clips captured by Radeon ReLive may be corrupted or garbled when desktop recording is enabled.
  • Enabling Enhanced Sync may cause game, application or system crashes on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products.

I'm glad to see none of these issues effect my use case scenario personally. My first AMD card since 7970 arrives Friday, but I have honestly never heard of Radeon Overlay, but I doubt I will use it anyway, I prefer a more vanilla experience, another reason I chose Linux Mint XFCE over Mint Cinnamon.

Radeon overlay just gives you some ingame metrics like FPS, GPU usage, CPU usage, VRam usage, GPU temps, Fan Speed that sort of thing handy if you run mods in games just to keep an eye on what a mod uses in comparison to without the mod

I am so tired of checking that stuff, been checking it for ten years. I'm promising myself something with this new build. I'm going to hit play, and enjoy myself, and if no hitching or crashes (and frame rates seem good to my eyes), I'm just not going to worry about the details anymore. I'm here to game. Maybe it's not an issue for a lot of you, but I became addicted to getting max OC stable for several years, maximizing my fan curve just perfect, etc. Now that I am in my 30s I just realize how much time of my life i have wasted... have to make some changes you know, for you it might be totally different, you enjoy it or it's not an addiction and that's great, I hope you continue to do so, the context is different for everyone, so no worries :)

he literally quoted the problem line....
"bait and switch tactic"
"Unbecoming"

Objective journalism would just be "this driver has not addressed the elevated fan speeds introduced in an earlier update"

Now I feel the need to state that I personally dont care much for the wording of the Article, I think we should stay critical, but its not hard at all to see what the poster was talking about.... "bruh"

not sure why everyone dislikes the higher idle fan, it's clear that it is needed because they run so hot. AMD needs to stop this love of blower fans and just let AIB board partners make these cards even if it means selling the PCB at a higher cost to make up for it.

It's kinda obvious that the news guy is butt hurt for some reason to make a statement like that. Very unprofessional imho and should be very careful throwing stones in a Glasshouse:shadedshu:

I took the same mentality with my CPU upgrade, no more tweaking and spending hours trying to maximize performance. Somehow, I still catch myself not only messing with things and monitoring things but talking about how good my performance is. Instead of how good my overclock is, now it's how good my stock setup is. Oh well...
