Red Dead Redemption 2 to be Epic Games Store Exclusive for a Month

Rockstar Games revealed that its hotly anticipated PC version of "Red Dead Redemption 2" will launch across three digital platforms. Pre-orders for the game will open on Rockstar Games Launcher on October 9th. At launch on November 5th, the game will be available on the Epic Games Store. This "exclusivity" will remain for a month, when in December, the game becomes available on Steam. Both Steam and Epic Games Store form concentric DRM layers to the Rockstar Games Launcher, and the game will be available on this launcher throughout, including pre-orders. Buyers are expected to be drawn to Epic Games Store or Steam to take advantage of regional pricing.

Yeah, no thanks.

If it comes to GOG (which it won't), I'll pick it up in a heartbeat.

You're going to have to use their Store/Launcher no matter where you go anyway so why do an exclusive when most early buyers will be buying direct from Rockstar.

Wondering how much Epic paid Rockstar for this exclusive deal.

"Technically" false, more like steam excluded, few other stores will have it, but epic bad is more click worthy :P

Epic suck balls and I don't want to wait to December for steam. So Rockstar launcher it is for for me then.

While you guys are arguing about which digital store is better (or less worse) I'm here waiting for the "additional details" in two days to find out if there really is no disc version planned. Because, you know, I'm a dinosaur.

Yeah because who cares about the environnement really.

Who cares if it's Epic, Steam or another? You will always need Rockstar Launcher to play, so it makes no sense to buy elsewhere and have to open two launchers to play.

Pretty sure that if you buy it on Epic, after it is installed, you can just run the Rockstar Launcher directly. Rockstar is wanting Epic to take the bulk of the bandwidth load from the launch.

I bought the disk version of GTA V the day it released. Due to defects in the disks, the disks killed one of my DVD drives and parts of the disks were unreadable on another DVD drive. I ended up using the game key to download it from Rockstar. It took about 2 days because Rockstar's servers were getting hammered with downloads. I plan to just buy the RGL digital version.

Any clue as to when it will be available on 5.25 floppy?

I’ll get mine direct from Rockstar, since all my Rockstar games are on their launcher and there is no reason to have dual launcher layers of drm.

1 month exclusivity only? Rockstar must be expensive.

Then I will have to disagree. I like steam better than that epic crap.

So most people will pirate it for at least the first two months? Does the game even have any online functionality?

People are getting pretty sick of all these game clients.

That's like paying for a plane ticket only to have the plane break down before takeoff and then be crammed in a slow sweaty bus to get there instead. And then have your luggage damaged or lost. I feel the pain...

Just curious - were the discs imbalanced or what?

A man of fine taste, I see!

The people that pirate it won't be able to play online.

Several of the disks produced whirring and grinding noises when it was in the drive or something I am not sure. I had an Asus DVD/RW. If I recall correctly it had a load bar that wouldn't finish once it got to a certain disk and then it would make a lot of noise. I read that other people that bought that DVD launch copy had the same issues. I am a GTA series fan so I bought it as much for the box as anything. This was like 4 years ago so I don't remember other than feeling some disappointment. I don't mind having digital copies of software, I was just in a nostalgic mood when I decided to buy it from Target (American department store). Despite not preordering the game, one positive was that the retail DVD box copy was a preorder copy so I think I got some extra GTA Online money IIRC. I also had to buy another DVD drive, this time from Microcenter, a Samsung model for around $12 open box IIRC.

How old are you? Steam sucked for years and years after launch. It was worse than Origin or Epic Launcher ever was. Both are here to stay.

Fanboy of a game launcher... How stupid LMAO... If you don't want to use Epic Games Launcher you are going to miss out on a ton of good PC games now and going forward, enjoy.

You will NEVER get all games on Steam, which is why Steam OS failed miserably. Tons of games are missing.

Steam milk developers dry. Or they did... Now there's competition and Steam has to lower the fee.

How old are you? Epic sucked pretty much always after launch. It was worse than Origin or Uplay ever was.

Yeah I agree with you, being a fanboy of a game launcher sure is stupid, maybe you should stop being one.

Yes, Indeed I did recently. Does that matter at all?
Uplay does suck, but Epic sucks more.
So have you considered not being a game launcher fanboy, "not Teen"?
