Corsair to use DHX cooling on all XMS2 modules

Corsair has decided to disband its popular "flashy LED" XMS2 Pro-series modules in favor of moving to the newer, and more efficient, DHX cooling solution used on its high-end Dominator memory modules.

Instead of being colored black like the ones on the Dominator modules, Corsair has decided to keep the silver/metallic colour scheme used on the Pro-series heatspreaders on the new XMS2 modules.

In the past, the company has had to speed bin for XMS2, XMS2-Pro and XMS2-DHX PCB designs, all of which were different. This meant that the company almost stopped producing new XMS2-Pro modules and it has also cut back on standard XMS2 modules too in favor of expanding its Dominator memory series. Now, Corsair will be able to speed bin all modules together.

speed binning is the same as binning if Im not mistaken. Basically, they go through all their memory chips and test them out and find the fastest and most overclockable chips. Then, they put those on their memory pcbs and sell them as the top of the line. Its guaranteed to reach speeds quoted in press releases, websites and on the box. For instance, if they guarantee that the XMS2 Pro will oc to 1000mhz..you can bet that it will. The normal chips would do 800 easily and maybe 900+ with proper voltage and cooling. With the binned chips...you know it can do the 1000 no problem and probably more.

Something like that anyway. I may have the mhz part of. but thats what it is. Finding the best chips to oc and clock in at the desired level :)
