Hey, we're live from Intel's Event at CES. We expect to hear about Rocket Lake, and possibly get a glimpse into the future beyond that.21:01 UTC: Intel's Gregory Bryant, Executive VP of the Intel Client Business is explaining how important computing is for the world today.21:03 UTC: Next generation 10 nanometer Ice Lake Xeons shipping now, "with volume ramping through this quarter". More cores, better performance, AI improvements. You'll hear more on those Xeons in the coming months.21:04 UTC: More than 50 Intel EVO laptop designs launched. Claims that only Intel and their partners can deliver this variety of designs. More than 150 partners.21:05 UTC: Stephanie announces new processors for business. Intel vPro "is built for business". Intel claims that vPro is the most secure solution for businesses today.21:07 UTC: Two laptops compared. Intel and "non-Intel system without the Intel security advantages". The demo shows that bad things can happen when you click on links on the Internet. The Intel system can defend against the control flow attack, the other system cannot.21:09 UTC: Claims about performance being up to 23% faster than AMD with Office 365. A video conferencing call is running in the background, while Tinkercad is running in the foreground to render a LEGO scene. The Pentium is much faster, not that big of a surprise considering how slow the MediaTek CPU is. The new Celerons and Pentiums support Windows, Linux, Chrome based devices, coming this year.21:20 UTC: Gaming! Recap of existing products.21:21 UTC: Comparison of AMD Ryzen 7 vs Intel. It's really interesting that Intel people never say "Ryzen", just "R7". Importing, editing and then exporting a video runs faster on Intel, even though Intel has just four cores, whereas the AMD system has eight cores. Intel wins because the CPU has AI acceleration to beat the AMD system. "It's clear, the best experience is powered by Intel".21:22 UTC: 11th gen Intel Core Chromebooks are launching. Possibly based on the same Celerons and Pentiums. Iris Xe graphics, Thunderbolt 4 support for Chromebook. Linux and Windows supported. 2.5x faster multitasking than previous generation.21:24 UTC: Finally! Intel Core-S Series, looks like they came up with a new branding for these CPUs. IPC gains of upwards of 14% gen-on-gen, thanks to a new architecture. PCIe 4.0, 20 lanes from the CPU. New AI capabilities. Intel worked with hundreds of developers to optimize their engines and games.21:25 UTC: New ultraportable quad-core H-Series Core i7 laptops for better mobile gaming, clocked at up to 5 GHz. PCI-Express 4.0. Paired with NVIDIA GPU. "At way more than 70 FPS at Full HD". More than 50 designs launching.21:26 UTC: S-Series CPU performance. 8-core i7 with 16 GB RAM and RTX 3080. Next to it an "identically configured" AMD system with 12-core Ryzen 7 CPU [which does not exist? they mean Ryzen 9]. Showing Metro Exodus. "Our team has created an automated script to mimic a person playing a game".. nope, that's the official integrated benchmark made by the Metro developers. The Intel CPU achieves 156.54 FPS, whereas the Ryzen achieves 147.43 FPS. No word about resolution, settings or memory configuration.21:27 UTC: Mobile gaming with quad-core H Series CPU. Destiny 2 running at 4K, High settings, "buttery smooth". "we will share the framerates once the GPU launches". The issue here is that this laptop uses an NVIDIA Mobile Ampere GPU, which will be announced later this week at CES, so they can't reveal actual performance numbers yet.21:28 UTC: 8-core Tiger Lake. H-Series 11th gen processor, up to 5 GHz "across multiple cores", 20 PCIe Gen 4 lanes. "Up to 40 GB/s bandwidth". Later this year.21:29 UTC: Recap of what was announced at this event. A table with all the specs for these would be nice.21:30 UTC: Alder Lake, the successor to Rocket Lake, is launching later in the second half of 2021. Combined high-performance and high-efficiency cores in a single CPU. It's Intel's first processor built on improved 10 nm process with faster transistors and improved MIM capacitor. Looks like the difference between the 1165G7/1185G7 (max 28W) and the new 11375H (max 35W) is TDP and clocks. It also shows that the TB4 is finally integrated and not on a separate chip.
